YOU COULD RUIN YOUR CAMERA OR EVEN BLIND YOURSELF !
finally had a day where the sun was out long enough to get some shots with my new filter. it's intended for use on telescopes but works just as well on a camera lens.
the set up I used was a sigma 170-500mm apo lens at 500mm with a 2 times and 1.4 times teleconverter stacked. This gives a focal length of 1400mm ( or a 2100mm effective focal length in 35mm terms ).
the sun spots are clearly visible . after stopping the lens down to f/10 , so were some dust spots too ! i think i edited most of these out.

In 2006, the Garden presented “Glass in the Garden” an exhibition of blown glass sculptures by renowned artist Dale Chihuly. The spectacular 928-piece Missouri Botanical Garden Blue Chandelier, 2006 is permanently suspended in the Ridgway Visitor Center atrium. Chihuly’s Walla Wallas were purchased for the Garden, where the onion-shaped glass floats in the central axis reflecting pool during warm weather months. Several graceful, amber-coloured Sunset Herons were also purchased and are displayed inside the Climatron.
A fisherman reels in a catch from the North Beach jetty during the bushfire sunset where the drifting smoke caused the sun to appear red.
During an evening walk on a warm summers evening, I caught a fleeting glimpse of a flock of geese heading into the sunset.
