another from the set - a few of the shots were like this - a lot more subtle in their tones and textures than the others. I don't now why (more land in the shot perhaps?) anyway - I rather like it :)
Subtle seat tube transfer..
The bottle-boss A/K pannier frame eyes can be seen on the inside of the seat-stays..and the mudguard clip A/K boss
I've not seen this very often, but maybe I just don't notice it--the flowers are not exactly showy.

Over the break between modules we were given a task to produce a series of images as a small book, inspired by one or more of Ed Ruscha’s.
I decided to use and reinterpret Ruscha’s Colored People, 1972. Taking the simple minimalistic aesthetics, as well as subversive message within, but twisting and changing the message and intent to a slightly different topic. Nolen et al aptly describe Ruscha’s intentions as being a book that:
“… indirectly addresses “colored people” with photographs of cacti and palm trees stripped of background and floating against white wall paper.”
Nolan, B.J., Cohen, M. & Zabaszkiewicz, S. (2014)
Instead of depicting exotic plants against a white background to symbolize people of colour, I chose to subvert the topic to “Visible Women” using a variety of flowers to indirectly address how women are judged on a narrow boundary of beauty standards (as well as making an indirect reference to Caroline Criado-Perez’s 2019 Invisible Women). Much like Ruscha I do not intend to describe my images via captions nor as a statement solely relying on the title as a subtle means to communicate my concept, and much like Ruschas the primary vehicle I will use to present my images will be a bound book, but unlike Ruscha this will be in landscape format. However I am not adverse to utilising modern technology and creating a virtual book as another method of presentation.

“Be extremely subtle, even to the point of formlessness. Be extremely mysterious, even to the point of soundlessness. Thereby you can be the director of the opponent's fate.”

Andy Glass bought the latest incarnation of his 40+-year old Prog/Folk/Psych outfit to Chepstow where they were second on the bill below Karnataka. With much material drawn from their excellent 2021 album Sia plus Guardian of My Soul and a new "try-out" track from the next album, they clearly blew Karnataka off the stage! This line up really suits Andy and they all seem to be having a lot of fun! Jess has a sublime and subtle voice that harmonizes well with Jenny on fiddle. The keyboards add texture and allow Andy's guitar solos space to develop and a tight rhythm section keeps it all together. I can't wait to see the again and her the new album!
Andy Glass - guitars
Jess Holland - vocals
Peter Helmsley - drums
Steve McDaniels - keyboards
Jenny Newman - violin
Robin Phillips - bass

Was working for an album cover and a profile shot.
Managed to pull this side of the model... Subtlely sweet
I saw a bunch of white roses and initially ignored them. However, when I looked a little bit closer I started to see these wonderful shades that I love so much …
A second chance is always worth it …
Lancia Thema 8.32 (1989), a true wolf in sheep's clothing. IMO beautifully understated. Featuring subtle badging, but also a 32 valve Ferrari V8 engine.

I took this one in the middle of the night during heavy fog - the only source of light was a street lamp about 60 feet away. I think the exposure time was about 20 seconds. It took a few tries messing around with the time lapse, but I finally got the look I wanted, so that only the areas that were directly reflecting light were visible, providing a cool effect. For those that can't figure out what this is, I was standing next to the passenger door of the Miata, shooting forward and down slightly towards the hood of the car. The hood has a small oval shaped bulge near the back, the headlight lids are visible, and the passenger side A-pillar (windshield frame) is visible.
The pants are in a lightweight stretch wool with tiny black and white checks. Love these for all year around.
...Subtle! But it's a clean coat on the wall, at least, which it needed. I like the way the color matches the skirt of my Andrea Marshall print (the upper left one on a white background), and in the future I plan to get a better match to that grey (less blue) and paint a whole room with it.

Venice, Italy
This is a photo I took in Venice during the world famous Carnevale. Most people donned masks around the city, some even purposefully dressing extravagantly so their photo would be taken. This photo represents a distinct Italian cultural event that began in 1162 with the defeat of Patriarch of Aquileia by the Venice Republic. The people gathered in San Marco Square to dance and celebrate their victory with elaborate costumes and masks, and this has been continued tradition ever since. Nonetheless, what I found most engaging about this photo is the woman on the left seemingly whispering to the woman on the right. This photo creates a sense of mystery as we wonder not only their identities, but what they're whispering about as well. Stylistically, their presence also creates repetition with the rest of the photo. There are the two women, and the pattern is then continued by the presence of the gondolas and the wooden poles. The vertical wooden poles also coincide with the church in background. The verticality of the poles is then continued by the church bell tower. I found this very intriguing and engaging. The church in the background on the left with the two women on the right creates tension, drawing the eye away from the center. Furthermore, the weather also created a very interesting effect in the photo. The fog gives the photo a mysterious feeling, adding to the mystery of what the two women are discussing. These are all components that create intrigue on the part of the viewer and display a Italian celebration that has continued for nearly 900 years.
「時光」是一家很有特色的二手書店,座落在花蓮市寧靜的街道中。踏進這日式建築裡,像進入了另一個世界,很容易把時光遺忘。這小書店有著優閒的閱讀氣氛,在這裡看書是一種享受。
This is a really nice little bookshop. Situated in a quiet narrow street in Hualien, the bookshop occupied a low profile Japanese architecture more than a hundred years old. It offers second hand books and some handicrafts made by local artists. Its name "時光" means time. Stepped inside, you will forget about time.
I spent an afternoon inside :)
