Order : Lepidoptera

Maybe not as spectacular as some of the Thailand moths but still quite attractive with forewings varying in colour from green to brown.

All my insect pics are one shot, hand-held macros of live insects in the wild.

Always look for what lies beneath. Antarctica has lots of hidden secrets

After a 3 hour trek up the Snowy Mountains from Dead Horse Gap we finally arrived at the Rams Head Ranges, resisting the temptation we set up camp before it got too dark. The terrain around the location is hard work and at sub zero temperatures it's really difficult to move very far, fortunately we were surrounded by stunning scenery.

CSX M434 comes off the Iona Island causeway with CSX SD40-2 #8040 leading CN and CSX gevos. Contrary to normal circumstances, the River Sub has had a host of 40-2 leaders, mostly on the 433 and 434.

A great cloudy morning down the mountain in Roanoke, about 45 min drive downhill from me. A few floors up and its so much better. Subbed, "subframed" with a Nikon Nikkor-O 35 f2.

A GP35 and a GP9 take a few cars up the 2.2% grade toward Harrison as they cross a wooden bridge. The Sixth sub sees trains only once a week usually on Monday's.

Marsh Owl (Asio capensis ssp.tingitanus) in flight Morocco_North Africa_w_0363

The Morocco Marsh Owls are an isolated and dwindling population. So much so that they are now a critically endangered species in Morocco.

This fragmented population is geographically separated from other breeding Marsh Owls by the huge arid area to the south called the Sahel. The Moroccan Marsh Owls are in fact a sub-species Asio capensis ssp. tingitanus. The only other other sub-species is Asio Capensis hova, in Madagascar.

The main cause of their decline in Morocco is habitat loss due to draining of large marsh areas with the expansion of agriculture.

i am now:

entranced by nostalgia

now:

overcome by the memory of your hold

on my then flaccid, unbroken limbs

tyranny, mistaken for tenderness

violent, tough

unrelenting in your hunt, for the chambers of my heart

for with it came my ill-informed intentions

with your empowering destruction

abnormal, rough

you had become

blood loss: our new warm gun

slowly, liquids drop from our impatient lips

slow enough to become love

in all its meanings

in all its polluted forms

Probably the best leader I've shot on the Windermere sub in quite some time takes a short train south of Golden with clear skies, snow capped mountains and a "friendly" crew.

sin respuesta...

"Waist" of time.

Old Summery SP.

We are somewhere in the milepost 70-ish range on the south end of the Logan Sub. At one time it used to connect into the N&W down at Gilbert. It stops a bit shy of that extension, instead making a left turn and heads for Elk Creek. That’s the last pile of black diamonds down here at the end of the Logan Sub. A relatively clean 7400 hugs the road and embraces the shadows on an early Fall morning. R211 is your train symbol.

See the description of this type of pinery on my previous post

There's no doubt that a fully mature Gannet, with its stunning yellow head & white plumage, is a beautiful & elegant bird. During a recent visit to RSPB Bempton cliffs, I was also taken with how visually striking these black & white sub-adults are.

made from three photos. Amateurish yet interesting.

In a pretty rare occurrence, CP 3-H88 has just a pair of GP38s for power as they grind up the grade in full notch 8 under the wooden bridge at mile 37 of the Galt Sub with about 5000ft of empty autoracks for Wolverton Yard.

I’m not sure exactly when CP 3011 arrived and was added to the Toronto power pool, but it’s certainly a welcome sight being one of only a small fleet of GP38ACs on the roster, and for my first catch of it to be leading a rare westbound on the main out of Toronto is even more special. What a day!

C640 rolls along Pratts Branch Creek on the former L&N Rockhouse Sub on its journey to Martin.

The sun has just risen over the farmland of Western Ohio as CSX rack train Q241 rolls under the classic C&O signals at Longley, Ohio on its way east. Recently, CSX has started the process of replacing these classic signals as new Safetrans are already standing at the crossovers in Lemoyne.

"The line_up is a paperwork series I developed in 2010 /11, the “liners” are made out of paper (Din A4) ,

oil paint and graphite, the theme is the hermetical laws of polarity and movement. There is no ending and no beginning in any direction, just an endless movement. You have the possibility to arrange the papers like you want and that makes it an endless playground for my photo-work and the eyes of the viewers."
