Video stills from the early study models (often called "white models" because they are simple black-and-white elevations mounted on white foamcore board) for MEN IN BLACK: ALIEN ATTACK at Universal Orlando.

These were built by the Universal Creative model shop at the studios in California. The larger one shown is often called a "head-scale" model, so the design team could walk underneath the model and put their head exactly where the ride vehicles would be, to identify sight-lines and guest focus early in design.

Keep in mind that these set designs were very early in the project, and many many changes were made before final installation. Based on concept-level schematic set elevation sketches, these models are used to communicate broad creative design, form & function, and architectural & infrastructure needs. These models then lead to much more detailed drawings as the project moves into design development and production.

Conceived as a 3m-tall sculpture, R's monument to Honoré de Balzac took more than 6yrs to be completed; B's large and awkward physical presence made him a difficult subject to capture. Seeking to create a simultaneously naturalistic and spiritual likeness, R modeled more than 50 studies of heads, nudes, and draped figures in various sizes and forms, using wax, clay, and plaster to push the composition to a more abstract form. The present example is R's final study, modeled in 1897 adn cast for R before 1901.

Architecture students work all semester to show their final design projects which are critiqued by faculty, students, and outside professionals.

This is a final review from Core III, which is the 3rd out of 5 core studios you will take as an architecture student. You can either work towards a Bachelors of Science in Architecture or a dual degree Bachelors of Science in Architecture/Masters of Architecture. I was in the latter program and I finished in 5 years (of course I took classes during every winter intersession and every summer since my sophomore year.)

Studio Curriculum for the Masters program is as follows...

5 Core Studios: Core I, II, III, VI, V

3 Advanced Studios: They let you choose which professor's project you want to participate in.

1 Comprehensive Studio: ARCH 513

1 Graduate Level Studio: ARCH 515

Thesis: Your own project in which you do all the research, site analysis, programming, etc. yourself.

Music director, Karl Osterland, is the reason Gary and I occasionally sing major works at Historic Trinity.

Karl is president of FasTemps, a strategic supplier of temporary and temp to perm professionals, a locally grown firm with ethics and local business smarts and great connections. He lived in Detroit for a good long time and continues to be there at least twice a week, if not more.

Field measurement of marine mammal collisions with tidal turbines is almost impossible to conduct; consequently, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratories conducted a simulated analysis of the potential risks. The analysis provides the marine energy industry, researchers, regulators, and stakeholders with surrogate research in the absence of extensive field data. Looking at turbine type—open center and two-bladed unducted—the study modeled potential strike scenarios for southern resident killer whales and harbor seals. The researchers considered the size of the mammal, strike location, angle, and skin/tissue structure when assessing the risk. For killer whales, the study found that the mammals face the possibility of lacerations, though such injuries were quite unlikely. Harbor seals, while extremely unlikely to get hit by turbine blades, face a greater risk of serious injury but are unlikely to be killed by a collision.

With any plastic kit, there will be incorrections (and flaws) relative to parts -especially when they don't align or fit properly. This is common practice and the only remedy to it is to be 'creative'. Afterall, kits are designed to keep one's attention (regardless of age).

The Airfix Company took it a step further to challenge one's creative abilities to 'go beyond' what was before the hobbyist and/or specialist. The sailing ships they produced was, in fact, the early prototype for hobbyists to become professionals in both design and techniques.

Here, after years of experience, I found innovative ways to modify this vintage gem of my youth by filling in the flaws. And since I wanted this to be a 'study' model, I decided to open all the door compartments throughout the build -beginning with the forecastle bulkhead.
