Study model for design project of a art center in Central, Hong Kong. QUT Design Studio

In Z33 BUILDS study models and pictures of our new house for the arts designed by the Italian architect Francesca Torzo will be presented.

In 2012 the design team of the Italian architect Francesca Torzo won the international architectural competition for the renovation and extension of the exhibition building of Z33.

The architect from Genoa designed for the extension of Vleugel '58 a sober and intimate building that will fit effortlessly in the historical fabric of the surroundings and the city. The architecture – unpretentious and poetic – connects seamlessly with the stately exhibition building from 1958.

The construction will start in the summer of 2016 to be completed by the end of 2017.

Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (SLCPs) typically stay in the atmosphere for a much shorter time than carbon dioxide. However, their warming effect on the atmosphere can be much greater. The main SLCPs behind current global warming are methane, tropospheric ozone, hydrofluorocarbons and black carbon. Cutting global SLCP emissions will have a number of rapid benefits. These include reduced warming, both globally and in the Arctic. They also include benefits for human health and agriculture, since many SLCPs are also dangerous pollutants.

aaaaaaaaaaand i'm back in ohio, desperately trying to catch up on "wall" and not thinking about how much i need to catch up on sleep. this batch of walls explores an idea i'd touched on in one earlier model - if you fold along the diagonal of the second-largest golden rectangle in the spiral, the thing will lean over in a way that lines up exactly with the diagonal of the first golden rectangle. this is inherent to the geometry of the golden rectangle and offered some interesting possibilities for the interplay between the triangular front plane and the rectilliniear back plane....as well as some monumental exercises in making the things weave together in the back. unfortunately, as i mentioned previously, it turned out that the "two planes separated by a uniform cushion of air" approach wasn't really what we were going for. i felt that in order to capture more volume with these basic shapes, i would have to move them so far out of sync that the original diagonal-alignment would have been completely wiped out, somewhat defeating the purpose/justification. it was back to square one, a bad place to be this close to the end of the assigment.

TMP-Style corridor was a study model I made to see if I could get the panels to have that rounded, padded look. Now I can paint them the right color. BTW: the exact same corridors were used for both the TOS movies and TNG!
