Linda Sarmento Manjazi lives in rural southern Mozambique with her two teenage daughters. She makes a living from odd jobs, and relies on social benefits from the Mozambique government to cover her basic needs.
"My daughters like to study. The first one told me that at school she is the best of all. She usually gets the highest marks. Even today, she told me "mama I got 18 in mathematics". I cry sometimes when they ask me to buy something and I can't give it to them. It’s difficult because I am their father and their mother at the same time."

Ms. Arvelo, Mr. Crabtree, and Mr. Grazuties all teach Civics and Citizenship classes. They joined forces to help students learn more about the democratic process by holding a mock debate and election on Dec. 5, 2024. Each teacher represented a fictitious candidate, and students voted for one at the end of the debate.
