The light in the Tate turbine hall was amazing, considering how little light there is. And a bloke sitting near me had taken off his shoes. Such beyoootiful shoes! I asked his permission and took this shot. Now I want a pair...
I think this is my last shot from Tuesday at the Tate. *sigh*
So it's 2am, and I'm in the middle of my STATs assignment. The fact that relevant papers spanned across 5 separate stacks + a laptop screen was... interesting enough to warrant a snapshot.
I think I ended up getting 80% for my answers. Not bad.
Study of lighting and set. I think there are opportunities here. However I need to work on things a bit.
By varying the location of the lamp I can really change the lighting on the subject. Though it is not a diffuse light source.
The table is lovely with a very weathered top.
Just some fruit from the bowl and my long lost thermometer.
TULISANES / BANDITS [study], 2010

I developed a new sense of fascination for the 19th century Caviteno tulisan [bandit], shadowy figures that were either reviled as criminals or glorified as folk heroes. A good example was the case of Pedro Cuevas of Bacoor who escaped from prison and found himself in Basilan where he became a powerful datu. Such was the power and fascination / or shall I say fear? of the native populace, that 19th century Cavite was nicknamed “Madre de los Ladrones” [Mother of Thieves]. Not a complement at all for my home province, but it somehow nailed the legend of the tulisan—transforming him into an icon of sorts.
The study above is an attempt to incorporate the tulisanes into a figure of personal mytho-poetics: a symbol of my own shadows.I know some people may take it at face value: four indio bandits desecrating a 19th century Philippine altar, carrying with them treasures and expensive santos.
In fact it is also meant to be a dream-like scene utilizing historical figures to express inner realities. To some extent it is an extension of my series on the puer and the theme of initiation rites. In this piece, the puer (symbolized by the child Jesus) is forcibly abducted by four bandits (the quaternio) from the hands of the Great Mother / Goddess archetype (represented in turn by the Virgin’s statue). In this composition the shadowy figures emerging from the unconscious takes the role of the heroes (thus the halos), transforming the puer from a naive boy into a more realistic inner man.
I plan to return to this theme again in the future, this time in lithograph form. But for the meantime this study will do. A month or so of creative rest may yield more insights on the relevance of the tulisanes archetype within my own psyche and the collective unconscious of 19th century Tagalogs. - J.A.A.
This colorful group of international students represented their countries at the recent Study Abroad Fair at IPFW, where they participated in a parade of nations or made presentations about their respective countries. Information was available on more than 200 programs in 60 countries, making it the largest event of its kind in northeast Indiana.
She was studying hard for the debate competition.
While she is under discuss, she has to debate in English.
A study has crinkle paper applied to the wall. A dark green glaze was applied on top to give a leather-like look.
i suppose i'm pretty lucky that this place is a 10 minute walk from my study hall :) there wasn't much colour in the sky. this is a little *ehhem* enhanced.
even though he's still can't read, but his determination to know about something make him give a full concentration on the picture in that books..
To some are given a gift of teaching. While I'm not always confident that it is a gift I truly have, I work hard to be a good teacher nonetheless. Part of that is the study time put in before each lesson, both time with the material we have chosen to use as a guide and the Bible itself.
Add to that daily study of the scriptures, and it becomes a life long task, filled with knowledge, wisdom, self-reflection and correction. Rather than something to grumble about, this studying brings me both insight and joy.

I received this kit maybe 2 weeks ago and I still haven't been to the lab to have my blood drawn. I am a participant of this nurse's health study since my daughter was only 2 or 3 years old. I had given them blood samples before, urine, hair, toenail and fingernail clippings. They need my blood and urine samples again. And I really hate to have my blood drawn but if it helps other people then one day next week I'm going. It was funny when I first received the box. I had forgotten that in the last questionnaire , I had indicated that I was willing to give blood/urine samples. The box did not say it was from Harvard School, it just said Bioservices. I suggested to my husband to call the hazmat team it might be a bomb or smallpox or some virus. He told me to open it in the garage, so I wore gloves and mask and opened it and was relieved to see the Harvard Medical logo inside.
