The Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies is a Recognised Independent Centre of the University of Oxford. It was established in 1985 to encourage the scholarly study of Islam and the Islamic world.

It's new buildings are still under construction in Marston, just to the east of Oxford but they rival the old colleges in their scale, decoration and architectural style.

Meditative Studies

Zen for your walls.

Small nature studies.

Quietly created as drawing meditations.

Each one is unique.

Peaceful simplicity. Slow looking. Radiating stillness.

These are delicate and deceptively simple drawings on quality artist's paper. Matted to fit a standard 8x10" frame.

My art explores an ongoing love of nature and celebrates the brighter, calmer, radiant side of life. It is a reminder that the world smiles with possibility.

Several of my family are sun lovers, and my nice 1970s tan shows I'm one of them. We now know that soaking up the sun is a necessary but mixed blessing, but hey, when you have to absorb lots of vital data for just a few days the kindly springtime sun can really help the student community to soothe the chore of exam prep.

I've been intrigued how scars glow after soaking up the sun, as mine did here .

At Penrith mall today and tomorrow, in honour of Star Wars Day, there's a mass Lego build going on: the largest Darth Vader ever, using 250,000 bricks, and next to him Yoda with 110,000.

Another instance of Heather's amazing ability to take silly photos. She claims this was a comfortable position.

As a graduate student, I spend the majority of my time reading books. I find studying pretty illuminating and thought this would be a fun way to capture that.

I'm copying a picture made by my friend Kenny McCartney, which you can view here. His is much better.

I shot this with an SB-600 using a Yongnuo flash trigger. I've been impressed thus far with what these little guys can do. I cut the power down to 1/64th and zoomed it out to 14mm, pointing it out of the top of the book. I set up a YN-560 flash behind me as a backlight (or rim light, I guess) and set it as an optical slave so it triggered when it saw the SB-600 flash.

350/365 - Our Daily Challenge - "Leading Lines":

I haven't decided if I entirely like this or not...Something seems "off", but I'm not sure what and I don't have time to experiment. I was trying to go for a bit more subtle lines with the white on white and wanting to work on white on white exposure. Your suggestions for improvement are very welcome. I hope this classifies as leading lines. It's not a very conventional example, however I do see lines within each flower leading to the stamen.

On a personal note: Our daughter is scheduled for a C-section tomorrow morning. Beginning tonight, we will have our 2 year old granddaughter with us around the clock for 4-5 days. We're so excited! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can somehow crank out 15 more photos to finish my 365. I hope to make comments in the evenings after Hannah goes to sleep, but hope you'll understand if my participation is sketchy over the next few days. Cannot believe we will finally meet our new granddaughter tomorrow!

I hardly ever say this....Please view LARGE.

I couldn't even imaging that I could get a picture for the first module of The Assignment today. I'd planned a different set of pictures for today and there's still time to take them. However, I'm really pleased that I took this picture.
