We visited a nuns' monastery on Sagaing Hill (Myanmar). This site is 20km from Mandalay and a former capital of at least two Burmese kingdoms. Today it is home to a multitude of pagodas and monasteries.
As for the monks, nuns have the possibility to study at the monasteries. This is why a lot of poor families send their children to monasteries. We even saw a nun working on a PC.
Students in Kakuma refugee camp, Kenya using tablets from Instant Classroom, the Vodafone Foundation’s ‘digital school in a box’.
Two Instant Classroom units were delivered to Kakuma in July 2015 to connect Greenlight Secondary School and the community library to the internet giving students access to free digital educational resources. The Instant Classroom is shipped in a secure and robust 52kg case which is equipped with a laptop, 25 tablets pre-loaded with educational software, a projector, a speaker and a hotspot modem with 3G connectivity. The tablets can connect to the laptop locally, enabling teachers to deliver content and applications to students without the need to access the internet. All the components can be charged simultaneously from a single power source while the case is locked. After 6-8 hours of charging time, the Instant Classroom can be used for a full day in a classroom without access to electricity.
The portable nature of the equipment has allowed for Instant Classroom to be moved between schools, enabling more students to benefit from tablet based learning.

Herman Hess had a quote that said something like, "If sensuality had a soul, out of that art would be born." This is my first study of the Birth of the Sensual Soul done in acrylics. Original was 30 x 40. Prints will be available on my Etsy page.

One of several studies from the 90s. Irregularities were in the glass...
A lobby panel in Chicago, not far from Second City. I also drew the great stained-glass windows of Europe (via photos), to study their unnamable light, oblong shapes, leading, etc. They were studies as much as anything; but there's a special satisfaction in being limited to a very closed world of patterns and hues. It's private but very satisfying...
Pen and ink.
the stripes theme is dragging beyond 7 days around here, but that's fine, it feels valid anyway, to me. this is on fabriano, I am really learning how watercolour sits on different papers in these warm ups and abstract studies.
As some of you know I am taking a course at one of the local universities. The course is Marketing Yourself.... we are learning how to best market ourselves in every situation. It is REALLY interesting and is going to be put to good use, but I forgot how much work there is!! I'm spending almost all of my "free" time working on it.... LOL...."free" time....as if! :-)
A group of experimental landscapes for LOL group on Flickr. In this group we paint or draw from a source photograph. As a result I've tried out a few methods and travelled the world, in my mind.
