A rose is a woody perennial flowering plant of the genus Rosa, in the family Rosaceae, or the flower it bears. There are over three hundred species and tens of thousands of cultivars.
They form a group of plants that can be erect shrubs, climbing, or trailing, with stems that are often armed with sharp prickles.
WHERE DO YOU GO TO MY LOVELY… Rose

Thank you Peter Sarstedt
A crying Rose.
The best roses come from my own garden, more fragrant and more opulent they are.
Monochromatic? Not really he? All the shades of grey... from a true black to white... as it should be!
A flower image in b&w...
I love the subtle tones, all the varied tones, that give the flower/petals/stems their texture, depth and form, their delectable shapes accentuated, extracted and emphasised without the colour.
Don't you agree?
My latest project, THE MONOCHROMES, THE BOOK can be viewed and purchased now: www.photobox.co.uk/creation/4656305615
Already working on the second one.
I wish you a day filled with peace in your heart! Thank you, M, (*_*)

Beautiful Long Studio from the entrance side, showing the beautiful view it has over the sea and towards the Fogo Island Inn (seen on the opposite shore).
This is one of four artist's studios on Fogo Island, all occupied by artists with residencies on the island.
I've written a blog post about my Newfoundland trip if you'd like to read it.
If you’d like to see all the Newfoundland images together, I’ve updated my website and you can see them all on the Galleries page.
Squish Studio is located a short hike from the town of Tilting on Fogo Island. As I mentioned before, these four studios are for resident artists. The studios are for work, and although they all have kitchens and sleeping areas, each artist is also assigned a home in the nearby town. One of the things I loved about the studios is that none of them (except Tower Studio, which is visible from the road) is visible from the nearest town, nor is the town visible from the studio.

In this trip through the archives, let's dip into some black and white images. This is Tower Studio again (the artist studio with the fantastic walkway) but from closer up. I showed another image of it back in 2018, but I like this angle as well.
This is one of the four wonderful artist studios on Fogo Island which I shot back in 2018. They are all occupied by working artists who are there on residency. Tower Studio is the only one of the four studios on Fogo Island that is visible from the road, though it is about 2 kms from the nearest town. All the studios are off-grid - collecting their own rain water and solar energy and heated by wood stoves. Wood has to be brought in from the nearest trail head (you can see the wood pile off tot he right), and at Tower Studio there is a lovely red sled to bring in the firewood along the 300m boardwalk over the moss and lichen-clad rocks to the studio.
From the archives: Fogo Island, Newfoundland, Canada. 2018.

I have this thing about lights and shadows.. as you can tell if you surf through the detritus in my flikr pages. It's certainly no Vermeer but I hope the idea of darkened room lit by firelight, moonlight and dim reflective surfaces comes across. She's perhaps too well lit but personality-wise.. she shines with her own inner light anyway :)
As for the upcoming product, peek at her shoes. They'll be out in a week or so, as soon as I get the sizing for the Maitreya beta correct, I'll get them right out.

Studio Werkz is a project from many years ago.
Working a black subject on a black backdrop can be challenging.
I've become quite familar with this young Maggie since it fledged.
It flew in to make a stand in a small shaft of sunlight. The high raking light gave just the seperation I wanted.
It started to practice its song, while I hummed the melody :-)

Studio 26, assignment on indoor photography
I was so enamored of Nancy's shot of Cooper, with the distant little furniture, I wanted to do one too. I couldn't get quite the distance, & the intense directional light from the glass door to Sibley's left cast half of her face in deep shadow, but here is our domestic shot.
I loved this assignment! So very useful to try a more organized approach to proper exposure of black dogs in indoor light! I chose this one for my final image, as it was one of my more ambitious ideas, & I really had to work at it. It involved watching light changes through the day & choosing a propitious time, & rearranging the furniture (getting rid of a chair which stuck up distractingly behind Sibley's head, & also swapping out a little table, as the one that usually sits beside the couch has curved legs which looked ever so odd from this height. Also requiring multiple posing sessions for Miss Sibley, while I figured out position of camera & distances, also waiting for her to move her head into a pleasing position. Wasn't she a star, to put up with all that & still look relaxed!
Ostoma ferruginea, Trogossitidae
Size 9 mm
A different take on the species from the last post. This dead/prepared specimen was borrowed from a friend's collection.
This is was shot in the studio with darkfield style lighting (light coming from behind). See the comment section below for more info!
Stacked from 160 exposures in Zerene Stacker.
Canon 5DmkII, Nikon PB-6 bellows, Mitutoyo M Plan Apo 5X 0,14, morfanon tube lens.
My boys made these canvases with acrylic paints a few years ago and I love them so.
All of the studio walls are now white :) I'll take more pics soon.
