Humans weren't the only ones doing an early morning beach walk. At times this Great Blue Heron stopped to fish along the shoreline.

This American Crow looks quite happy in the nearly empty WSU campus. I've only birded at home or by car; I still see too many people out and about to feel comfortable, especially since so many are unable to keep a social distance between themselves. I got out of the car for a brief time yesterday and then regretted it as the empty parking lot suddenly sprouted people as they took short cuts through it.

A day late for Thanksgiving, but this is a shot of wild turkeys in my backyard taken several years ago, when I lived in the Applegate Valley in southern Oregon.
I would like to first say just HOW much I admire all of you Flickrites who take the wonderful bird shots you share. I spent a LOT of time trying to get decent shots and discovered yet again- I have SO little patience! These birds would flit one way, then the other! My feeders are all hanging and swing when a small hungry bird comes in for a fast landing! I took many blurred shots and got many shots of bird butts! So, my hat is OFF to you guys, as I realize JUST how difficult a really good bird photo is!
(Now I will have to learn what bird is what!)
Carolina Wren! Thank you guys for the ID!

It can be hard to tell males from females Southern Ground Hornbills (Bucorvus leadbeateri) unless you can see the violet blue patch on the throats of femaies, just visible in this shot of a female walking though the tall dried grasses in the Mabula Ground Hornbill Project, that is a breeding facility for this threatened species. The bird's classification as endangered is tied to its slow reproductive rates and other factors such as habitat loss and accidental poisoning.
