I want to thank you for taking the time to visit my little space here on Flickr.
During our visit to Lagoon, there were a number of peacocks freely roaming through the park. This male decided to put on quite a prideful display of his feathers. He strutted around like this for several minutes posing for photos and an adoring crowd.

I had a fun time yesterday just trolling for birds off the sides of the roads that cut through the marshes at either end of the island.
I found a particularly busy stretch of mudflats and marshland off the driveway to 2 Mile Landing.
I sat there for awhile watching several oyster catchers and egrets, a handful of yellowlegs, some willets and a bunch of sanderlings and little plovers.
Just as I was getting ready to leave this pretty turnstone popped out from between the grasses right in front of me!
A nice find to end a fun day of chasing birds with my camera.
Taken at the Rennaissance Fair in Wichita, Ks. This group of belly dancers were a joy to watch but, this woman shined above the rest.

These Forsters Terns in spring in stiff mating poses were quite serious. Viewed in South Cove, Brigantine NJ
Approximately three weeks ago my back up camera body decided to quit working, and so I began researching the various Canon bodies available. After much thought I chose the Canon 5d Mkiv full frame body.
Yesterday the weather was ideal for a nice photo outing and an opportunity to give the new body a good testing.
The following images some of the results. I must say I was impressed with it...
A male tundra swan shows off for his mate. Alas, she she wasn't impressed.
Thanks for taking a look.

One of the most fascinating and impressive displays in the bird world...in fact all of nature.
From the National Wild Turkey Federation website:
“Strutting is an instinctive or innate behavior. The word is used to describe the courtship display of the wild turkey. The strut of a wild turkey consists of five main components:
1. Turkeys will drop their wings down to allow the primary wing feathers to touch the ground.
2. The bird will hold its tail in a vertical position and spread its tail feathers to form a fan.
3. The gobbler will place all the back and breast feathers in an erect position, making him appear larger.
4. The head, naked skin and caruncles of a wild turkey may range from blue to bright red or flesh tone. The bird’s crown is usually pure white.
5. The bird will bring its head and neck down into an “s” shape and elongate the snood (or leader) near the base of its beak."
We found this gobbler in the Santa Rita Mountains of southern Arizona. I'm not 100% sure, but I think this is the Gould's subspecies.
