A 911 emergency call was received just after midnight on Tuesday morning. The caller reported a house on fire along County Road 818 in the heart of the Logan community.
Multiple units from Logan Fire & Rescue were called to the location by County Fire dispatch.
Upon arrival, Logan fire fighters discovered a home fully engulfed in flames with portions of the roof structure already in a state of collapse.
Two front line fire engines were set-up and pumping water within minutes. Unfortunately, the available water hydrant was able to supply only 600 gallons per minute of water. A full capacity engine can flow up to 1,250 gallons per minute.
In the meantime, additional fire crews from both Bethsadia Volunteer Fire Departmentand Crane Hill Communities Volunteer Fire and EMS Department arrived to provide mutual aid to Logan Fire. They arrived with both engines, water tankers and extra personnel.
After an intense engagement with the blaze, fire fighters were able to subdue the bulk of the active flames within 40 to 50 minutes. Secondary fires and hotspots required work through the night into daybreak to extinguish the final flames.
In daylight, Logan Fire Chief Toby Bates estimated the structure was “a total loss”. He also indicated that if water pressure into the area had been higher, the initial few minutes of the fire fighting effort would have yielded better results. He also pointing out, however, that the home was fully involved in fire upon their arrival, and even with maximum water pressure, little of value could have been saved.
Fortunately, there were no occupants of the home at the time of the fire.
No injuries to firefighters or anyone else was reported. Cullman EMS had a medical team staged at the location as a precaution.
A deputy with the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office was active at the location providing security and traffic control (County Road 818 was completely closed during the entirety of the fire fight).
A crew from the Cullman Electric Cooperative also arrived at the address. They disconnected the power supply for the safety of all parties involved.

As they advanced a line Truck 1 laddered the roof of the one story structure with a ground ladder as second due Engine 8 set up the hydrant just west of the scene. The E-11's crew was able to bring the fire under control quickly using only their tank water.
