WESTLAKE - It took sixty-four Los Angeles Fire Department Firefighters more than two hours in largely defensive operations, to access and confine heavy fire on both floors and within the attic of apparently vacant and boarded 3,248 square foot two-story Craftsman-style home that had been converted at some earlier time into a residential duplex. During the fierce firefight against stubborn flames late November 4, 2023, an adult male civilian exited the still burning structure with 3rd degree burns to both legs. In critical condition, he was provided immediate care at scene and during transport a regional burn center by LAFD Paramedics. No other injuries were reported. Due the the 117 year-old wood framed structure's instability, LAFD Heavy Equipment was summoned to abate physical hazards. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The brand spanking new Performing Arts Center at Soka University of America. The building sticks out like a sore, if beautiful, thumb amid what seemed like a carefully designed, balanced and serene campus. It would be more at home at UCI. For one, it pretty much blocks the best view of the Founders Hall there used to be.

Just before noon the alarm sounded for a structure fire at 36 Chipman St in Waterbury's Town Plot Section. First due Engine 11 arrived to find smoke showing from the single family dwelling and reported that they would be stretching in. As they advanced a line Truck 1 laddered the roof of the one story structure with a ground ladder as second due Engine 8 set up the hydrant just west of the scene. The E-11's crew was able to bring the fire under control quickly using only their tank water. The remaining time on scene was spent overhauling and ventilating the structure which was charged with smoke by the incident. See more action on my websitte www.onscenefirephoto.com

i enjoyed our visit to the Scottish parliament. i must say, more than i expected. it was clear from the outset that Enric Miralles the Spanish architect who sadly died before its completion had to some degree been influenced by Gaudi. although the forms in the structure were not as organic the flamboyance is undeniably present. my personal opinion is that the exterior and interior stand as a final statement to a great architect.
During Spanish rule, this structure housed the governing council, or Cabildo, of
the colony. The structure on this site was erected in 1779, but burned in 1788.
Don Andres Almonester y Roxas then contributed the funds for construction of
a replacement. Built in 1795-99, and still standing, a portion of old Corps-de-
Garde (Police Stations) of 1753 can be seen today in one of the ground floor
rooms of the current Cabildo. The splendid wrought-iron balcony railing, called
the finest work from the Spanish period in New Orleans, is attributed to
Marcelino Hernandez. From this building, France, then Spain, then France
again, then the United States, the Confederate States and finally, the United
States again, have been governed. In a second floor room, known as the Sala
Capitular, France ceded the territory of the Louisiana Purchase to the U.S. in
1803. Today a part of the Louisiana State museum, and the Cabildo display such
important items as the “founding stone” of the colony (1699) and the death
mask of Napoleon Bonaparte.
