Single light above and LHS of frame with soft box on quarter power, single light behind model with dark purple gel attached on high power.
Bit of a test we tried at the Essex group shoot.
The background was white and there was quite a bit of ambient light which made this pigging difficult. Much easier on a black background in a dark room.
580EX II camera left, 554EZ camera right both set in "Multi" mode at 3Hz, 6 flashes and 1/32 power. Triggered with RF-602 wireless.
A rainstorm at night captured with strobe (canon 580exII) on full power to illuminate as many rain drops as possible.
I did set the strobe to second curtain sync, but somehow the streaks appeared on the wrong side anyhow... Anybody have an idea as to why that might be?
Strobe camera left back Canon 540EZ diffuser (1/64) Strobe Canon 430 EX (1/4) off ceiling pointing away from subject, camera right front.

and yes, that is a paper towel in the back.
It's been to long since I've played around with the strobes in class. I debated for awhile whether or not to upload this shot or the Black&Whtie version. I went with this one. (Duh) What do you think?

Comments? Crit?
Scrap 2mm plexiglas, a hacksaw, heat gun, and velcro make very serviceable holders for the Lee gels. The industrial high-adhesive new-style Velcro is excellent stuff: the glue stays stuck, and the 'cro' part doesn't grab at your clothes.

Soviet photo-lamp IFB-300 (300 W) for shadow-free shooting on the SB-80DX flash - an impromptu design that works in A, i (D) -TTL and others. This photolamp can work on all modern flashes, as the photolamp has a high resistance of 3 ohms. It provides even lighting. The flash is on the camera

Strobed with one light, one reflector setup, light from back of the watch, top position. angled to avoid reflection on watch. flags and black cards to control light spill. NO PS, Just a little bit of lightroom for color correction.
Seen in the same location as the last shot only this time a small van passed by as the photo was being taken and turned right into his driveway just behind the coach. His tail and brake lights left a trail on the long exposure and leaves a strobe effect across the picture.

Captured using Sync and Delay, with a microphone sensor and delay of 1.4 ms.
PC: Vincent T, Kiran W, Christina S, Anish P, for MIT 6.163 Fall 2015
Cropped from the square format to 8x10 for my wife's sake.
Lighting is Metz Mecablitz 60, camera left. I positioned him under a tree, then metered the ambient with an incident meter so I had the ambient underexposed by a stop. That was my fill. I then flash-metered the strobe for the desired aperture. I shot this on a tripod as I was shooting Kodak Portra 160 film (@ 125), so the shutter speed was slow-ish.
You can see the set up shot I took on my dSLR, earlier in my photo stream.
Bronica SQ-Am, 150mm lens. CyberSync triggers.
My buddy Garrett and I were playing in his basement with an old strobe light.
Would have turned out better with some forethought and a studio, but it was fun and we got some cool images out of it.
