This part of Oxley Creek is basically all sand. The big rain events of 2011 and 2013 must have wiped out much of the banks and the trees along with them.
A lot of the elementary schools have these fish on their fences. I think it is a craft project which is also used to teach the kids about the value of clean water to the other creatures in out world. The fish snaking along the fences look very cool.

Aka water slider, water bug, pond skater, skimmer, etc. Striders comprise the Gerridae family of true bugs. There are more than 1,700 species worldwide. Despite their delicate appearance, they are predators, attacking any insect or other small invertebrate on the water's surface.
I went for a hike to see what Irene and Lee did to the woods behind the house. There's been so much rain that there were little streams all over where there had never been any before. I've walked through these woods since I was a little kid and I've never seen one at this spot before. I set the shutter for 10 seconds and ran up to sit on a rock so I could turn it into a ghostly self-portrait of sorts. The mosquitoes were awful!
