creates a mood of dispair
but the clouds dont mind
they just keep dancing....
For the first week of the monsoon season in 2007 I made it a habit to take my camera to work with me each day, just in case the weather did something interesting. But this years' season turned out to be kind of a wash, without nearly the frequency or intensity of storms I'd seen in previous years. There were a few nice moments, however, such as the evening the sunset lit up the western flank of this storm building to the south of the office where I work.

Since the kidlets have been unable to get to sleep at night after so many Christmas late nights (grrrrrrr!), I decided to take them for a wander in the weather yesterday to tire them out!
The wind had been howling and the rain battering the windows since the early hours but, by the time I dragged them out of bed, it was pretty calm and brightening up.
By lunchtime, the sun was shining so I thought, this will be quite enjoyable - up the Lickey Hills, bracing wind in our hair etc :)
However, as we got into the car to go over to Beacon Hill to embrace the wind, there was a hailstorm! The car was covered in a sheet of little icy balls.
Once we reached the Beacon, the hail stopped - at least until we got out of the car! ;)
It was fab up there! Battered by the wind, belted by hail, leaping a giant puddle to gain access to "the castle" (aside from Enso who was sensibly sporting wellingtons!), watching as the hail storms scattered across the city before us, broken by glimpses of blue sky and pinpoints on sun rays.
We only had one accident - Kizzie (10) slipped over pretty much right away so had a muddy bum!! I managed not to let any of them get blown over the edge!

Tropical Storm Fengshen is close to Japan and forecast to continue on an east northeast track towards the central Pacific. The Japan Meteorological Agency has warned of storm surges while Japanese airline ANA warned of possible disruption to flights for Tuesday.

As Rich and I headed north on I-35 through Oklahoma toward Kansas, the anticipated line of strong thunderstorms materialized. From about 10 minutes after I took this panorama until we got to Lawrence, we drove in varying degrees of storm. At times it was pounding with visibility down to 50 yards or so and at times it was a light rain. The one thing that made it all worthwhile was the lightning; in a no contest runaway, that was the best lightning show I've ever seen. Absolutely amazing stuff.

Some severe storms blew through North Texas this evening, and I just happened to grab some great lightning pics after they were safely over us.
We've had big storms in L.A. all week but the kitties have wanted out anyway. Lucy was out there getting windblown today and like her normal self. Here she was looking up to see rain just starting to fall again.
