Avalabetta and Gudibande Fort, Karnataka, India
Avalabetta and Gudibande Fort are a good daytrip from Bangalore. Both of them are just off the Bangalore-Hyderabad Highway (NH7).
Avalabetta is a small hillock about 100kms from Bangalore city. The hill houses Lakshmi Narasimha temple, villagers offer the first milk of their cows to the deity worshiped here. It has small ponds on the way up to the top of the hill and you can do some rock climbing on the hills. The top of the hills affords some beautiful vistas of the countryside.
Gudibande Fort is a multi level fort was built by local chieftain Byre Gowda some 400 odd years ago in the 17th century. The fort’s main feature, is the rain water harvesting with 19 rock ponds at different levels of the fort. The ramparts of the fort follow the huge rocks on e the way to the hills and some of the steps to the entrance of the fort are carved into the rock itself. The fort has seven levels with interconnecting escape routes which would help soldiers to flee in case of emergency. On the top of the fort is a Shiva temple, which is believed to be one of the 108 Jyotirlingas. One can also have a good view of the Byrasagara reservoir frm the top of the hill.
At the edge of Shoreline Park, on the coast of Santa Barbara, behind the big tree lies the Thousand Steps to the beach you never knew was there.... worth the climb, especially at sunset in the company of amazing people :)
Behold the magical staircase! You set things on these steps and, somehow, they disappear and then reappear all properly placed in boxes or shelves upstairs!
Dad: It never fails! Truly marvelous! :-O
Mom: Grmpfs!!! :o/

The Chipping Steps, this cobbled lane with its old weaver's cottages is a medieval relic that abuts the old 'Chipping' or market place.
Several cottages of medieval origin that line Tetbury’s famed Chipping Steps, which served as the site for the hiring of domestic and farm labour on market days centuries ago. Now the cobbled Chipping Steps are simply the oldest part of the town, connecting the old hilltop market square with a car park for visitors. Tetbury, a classic Cotswold success story, prospered from the region’s wool trade which exploded after the Norman conquest brought enormous Continental demand for British wool. The centre of the trade in Tetbury was atop the hill at the town square.
Steps leading to the lower lawn. At the top of these steps was the bungalow which after falling into very poor condition was demolished in 1947.
