The Spanish Steps (Italian: Scalinata della Trinità dei Monti) are a set of steps in Rome, Italy, climbing a steep slope between the Piazza di Spagna at the base and Piazza Trinità dei Monti, dominated by Trinità dei Monti, the church that was under the patronage of the Bourbon kings of France.
This morning, 5 weeks after surgery, I am enjoying sitting on the steps and being able to get up again. I can use the railing to support most of my weight for raising and lowering myself, but the knee can also bear much more than a few weeks ago when bent. This feels like a big milestone. When I first saw the 3 big stairs (which were finished while I was in the hospital) I thought the whole thing was such an inviting piece of furniture and I've been longing to sit on it. The timer on the camera missed Wiki's fast dashes up and down and through this scene.
It was raining, still, after the opera ended, but that didn't dampen our spirits. We had a nice, late, passeggiata, past the Spanish Steps. Did a bit of window shopping, too.

The Spanish Steps and its surroundings were built with French funds. The Trinità dei Monti church was built by Louis XII, and the steps linked this to the embassy of Spain just off of the lower piazza. This was a symbol of the power of the House of Bourbon, which was the ruling royal family in both France and Spain.
Steps leading down to our cellar - it's a really old cellar and very damp so we leave our trainers there to use.
I thought it made quite an interesting photo - I took it on the 'cool' setting.
It's amazing what I am finding 'interesting' at the mo - this photo a day has really changed my day to day perspective on stuff.
The ascent on the opposite side to the iconic snicket, worn down by a million pairs of clogs, boots and shoes.
Those circles in Gas Street Basin near the metal bridge have gone. They used to hold the original route of the bridge before they moved it.
