I had a rummage around my brother's shed and found lots of interesting stuff.

I departed from the plans in several instances. The lower cylinder cover and piston rod packing were unnecessarily complex and and not easily serviceable after construction so I modified it to suit me. The steam inlet and outlet were changed because this engine will be run on compressed air. The method I used is more convenient for attaching the air hose and adds a little to its "industrial look" I think.

It is clear that both the engineer and the fireman required a lot of skill at operating the old steam locomotives. Just remembering what all of the valves and controls are used for has got to be a real challenge. Union Pacific #4018 Big Boy.
