Artist Statement

This portfolio represents my exploration of light, texture, and perspective. Through these seven images, I aimed to capture both the quiet and the dynamic moments that surround us daily, from natural landscapes to urban environments.

Each photograph was chosen to reflect a balance between observation and emotion. Some images focus on movement and energy, while others emphasize stillness and contemplation. I intended the sequence to create a visual rhythm, inviting the viewer to move through the portfolio with both attention and curiosity.

Photography, for me, is a way to notice the unnoticed—to see beauty in everyday moments, patterns, and contrasts. This collection represents my creative journey, highlighting the ways I interpret the world visually while developing my technical and artistic voice.

Drake Speaks on #AltonSterling

Joining the many concerned artists who have been vocal about the fatal police shooting of Alton Sterling, the Toronto rapper Drake released a statement about police brutality on Instagram.

“Last night, when I saw the video of Alton Sterling being killed, it left me feeling disheartened, emotional, and truly scared,” he wrote.

“I woke up this morning with a strong need to say something.

“It’s impossible to ignore that the relationship between black and brown communities and law enforcement remains as strained as it was decades ago,” he added. “No one begins their life as a hashtag. Yet the trend of being reduced to one continues.”

Before saying that his thoughts and prayers are with the Sterling family and any family that has suffered through a similar situation, Drake also explained his fears and hopes further.

“This is real and I’m concerned,” he wrote. “Concerned for the safety of my family, my friends, and any human being that could fall victim to this pattern. I do not know the answer. But I believe things can change for the better. Open and honest dialogue is the first step.” allnewshit.com/drake-speaks-out-on-police-shootings-alton...

Note-Grids are a tool for collecting and connecting objects of thought (in this case, words).

They treat words and other manifestations of thought as objects that can be freely manipulated to create new meaning.

They break meaning up into individual words to facilitate a more fluid, intuitive, and improvisational approach to knowledge production.

‘The Five Stages Of Sleep’

During the creation of these photomontages I was highly influenced by the surrealist Painters such Yves Tanguy, Giorgio De Chirico and Salvador Dali. The Dream like appearance of their paintings does indeed tie in with my work. Taking elements from the mind whilst in the process of sleeping. Using the factual information about sleep and my own personal experiences I was able to create the photomontages explaining how I view the process.

‘The Spine’

Making this sculpture made me think about the materials I was using and how structure is important when it comes to stability. Just in the same way the structure of a spine is important to a vertebrate animal. Leonardo Da Vinci’s work showed me the links between the anatomy and the art of the human body and how each individual part is important when it comes to the framework. Stripping away the outer layer and getting to the core structure of a human being.

‘The Hand’

The part of the human body that we use for almost everything. Its form is very intricate and each hand is different to another. The clay sculpture of my own hand that I produced is simple. An appreciation for the form of a hand.

‘Growth and Imperfections’

This sculpture was based on human progression. Birth, death, growth, stability and the imperfections and experiences of life that are embedded into an individual. Using wood and manipulating it to create a stable structure that represents something more than its initial appearance.

The Art that I have produced all relates to Human Beings. From the way they think, the way they are structured, how they use their body, to the experiences they come across through their lives.

I've fixed it so the large (and original) size is available on all the recent iris shots. I urge you to pick at least one and check it out. It's why I love macro so much, there really is another world in there that you can not see in the small version of the shots and definitely not see with the naked eye.
