Blick auf den Rhein und Schloss Stolzenfels
Shot on Samsung Galaxy S10 and edited in Lightroom and Startrails
We had a very bright moon this night. I prefer shooting startrails when the moon is present. The trails might not turn out to be the brightest one can imagine, but the landscape just looks so much better by adding interesting light.
Ok, you gata start somewhere...
This is my first startrails project attempt. Had a little processing problem at the end, but learned for some unknown reason, that I needed to create the beginning black base image many times larger then the images I was stacking onto it, then once stacked and flattened, I could crop it down.
This was created with 100 images, 30 sec open shutter, then around 1 sec closed, (repeat)..
The time was between 8:45pm to 9:23pm, 1/20/11. I purposely framed the shots including part of my house, for a reference,, and unfortunately I lost about 10% of the left side, due to a plastic bag i placed over the camera for moisture protection, that worked it way into the image.. I also learned that you really do need to have wider lens to get the full affects. This was shot at 18 mm.
I'm also including the starting and ending image, for reference.
I'll probably re visit this in the spring, when the clouds clean, and temps come up a bit.. Brrrr… ;-)
Comments and/or shared experience, is welcomed!!

Train passing by
Another star trail - looking southeast from my back yard. If I had pointed the camera in this direction earlier in the week when the Orionides were active, I might have caught a couple. Some scattered clouds interfered with the continuity of the trails and the lines of small dots are aircraft passing by - even though I yelled at them to stay out of the picture.
Last week this fantastic rocket appeared at work to support the new Broadband Guarantee we offer.
Naturally I immediately planned to get back to the office on a clear evening :)
45 minutes of star trail made up of 90 x 30 second images.
Edited in lightroom, Photoshop and StarStax
About:
My first shot at star trails, actually I didn't planned this, it just happened :) When I stayed at Lake Tekapo I wanted to photograph the milky way, because Lake Tekapo is known for excellent conditions for this (little stray light). But the with full moon it's impossible to capture the milky way properly, as I was awake I thought why not try a star trails picture. And this is the result.
Location:
Church of the Good Shepherd, Lake Tekapo, NZ
This image is also geotagged
Technical stuff:
94 pictures at 30 sec / f6.3 shot back-to-back
1 black frame
First frame was shot separately (the small dot at the start of some lines), I used a flashlight to put some light into the windows of the church, the church is purely moonlight exposed.
In Lightroom I added some extra exposure and Fill light to all pictures, this way I got a little more blue in the sky and the end result is a looks better.
Afterwards put it through StarTrails and did a high-pass sharpening on the foreground.
Improvements:
Do a pause between frames.

Spéciale dédicace à mon pote Iva ;)
I'm not getting much time to spend keeping up with my contacts. Sorry guys. I promise I'll catch up as soon as I get a chance.
This was attempt 2 at Startrails over the city. I remembered my filters this time. Got my comp and exposure as I wanted it and set the sequence running. After about 10 shots the gray shadow of low lying mist enveloped my position and covered everything in a fine layer of water. Including me.
Ive had to put the shot together in two parts. The first being the startrail sequence which makes the top half of the shot. This consists of 175 shots at 15 sec each. The bottom half of the image is a single exposure taken before the mist blurred the filters.

i'm sure i will be back to this place.. i didn't notice the moon is getting closer and closer into my frame while i'm trying to shoot the startrail...
mission failed.. but i will be back :D
My first attempts using the Live Composite feature in the Olympus EM1..... each picture is a multiple 15sec exposure automatically overlaid and the set range from 8 - 10 minute total exposure time
As far north as I am... it was difficult to get anything interesting for a foreground... but I like what I got!
