i decided to make something from all the bottlecaps that i had been collecting. got a posterboard from target and held them on with tacks glued to the back.

March 3, 2012 - Sen. Begich helps kick off the 2012 Iditarod at the ceremonial start in Downtown Anchorage.
We started our treck at 104KM early morning at approx. 10 AM. It was funny as when we got off the train it was in the middle of nowhere , not station. Our guide handed in our permit and off we went on our adventure.
The total km for the day was 16km/10 miles and took us up from 2011m / 6000 ft to the highest point at Winay Wayna 2650m / 8694 ft. At this point we had our lunch at the ruins then reached the Sun Gate after the 52 gringo stairs at 2750 m / 9000 ft. At this point we viewed Machu Ruins below and started our hike down to 24m / 7873ft. Our last stop for the next two days is Aguas Calentas the small village closest to the ruins.

There were supposedly about 10,000 people there this morning, but not everyone ran. I was in the runners' group that started first -- at about 8:00. The walkers, in a crowd stretching all the way back up the highway exit ramp, filled in behind us.
The new Tacoma Narrows Bridge opens to traffic tomorrow, but they opened it to runners and walkers this morning: a one-time-only bridge run.
There are a couple things going on here that I would like to point out.
First, by 2004 I was starting to loose my sense of timidity. I learned I could ask people if I could take their photo and nearly always I was granted my wish. People posed nicely for me and it was great fun.
Second, for processing these images I've moved away from the "Hollywood style" pasty white skin processing (where everything is shoved to the left) to bringing down the tones a little to see if I can't get a better sense of richness.
I used a Mamiya 7 + 50mm f4 rangefinder 120 format camera and Kodak TMax400 120 film that was souped in Kodak D76 (my favorite developer). Looking at these images I realize just how nice that 50mm was. I was able to get closer to my sujects and there's a sense of contrast that I find rather pleasing.
