The start line is off to the left. Very cleverly done, they let runners off in waves, depending on their capabilities. That way slower runners didn't get faster ones trying to overtake too much.
This was the 25th anniversary of what is Europe's largest 10 mile road race. Well done Portsmouth for hosting another great race.

Abbaye Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa has a long and winding history, starting in 840, when near the river Tet "Sant Andreu d'Eixalada" was founded. This small abbey was washed away during a flood already soon after.
The monks moved to nearby Cuixa, where in 879, abbot Protasius (he came from Urgell) and Miro the Elder, count of Conflent and Roussillon (and brother of Wilfred the Hairy) signed the founding treaty of the new monastery.
Under protection and influence of the Counts of Cerdanya the abbey gained importance. A large complex was built over the next century. In 974 a monk from Cluny (!) consecrated the main altar of the new church, dedicated to Saint Michael. Since 961 abbot Garin led the monastery. He was a perfectly connected intellectual figure, friend of Gerbert d'Aurillac (later Pope Sylvester II). At that time Pietro I Orseolo, formerly the Doge of Venice and later a venerated Saint, joined the community as well as Saint Romuald, later the founder of the congregation of Camaldolese.
Influental and powerful Oliba (971-1046), descendant of Wilfred the Hairy, count of Berga and Ripoll and later bishop of Vic and abbot here kept the place in the political center of the County of Barcelona. He had founded a couple of monasteries (eg. Montserrat), had been a political adviser and was a well travelled man. He had been impressed by the architecture he had seen in Italy and was heavily involved in the architectonial process, transforming the pre-romanesque complex, started by his predecessors.
Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa lost the importance it once had and during the next centuries. There was a row of self-confident abbots, without any interest in monastical traditions. The French Revolution ended that - and the last monk fled 1793, just before the revolutionists ruined the place with great effort. The abbey was sold afterwards by the government - and another story started.
The abbey fell in disrepair. The cloister, erected 1130-1140, was still complete in the 1780s. After the Revolution the new owner had different plans, as he needed a water basin, and reckoned the cloister the perfect place.
In 1841, the owner tried to sell the cloister to Perpignan, where it should find a place in the garden of the archbishop, but the negotiation failed. At that time 37 pillars and capitals were still in situ. Soon after the cloister was taken apart. Most carvings were sold to people in nearby Prades, to beautify their gardens.
Around 1905 an American sculptor, living in France, opened an antique trade. He tracked down the scattered pieces of the cloister - and started to buy them sucessfully. He was proud, that in the end he had the major part of the cloister, having spent about 3000 US$.
To cut the story short, most of the pillars, arcades and capitals are now in New York, where the joined the cloisters from Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert and Bonnefont. They are all part of "The Cloisters", once founded and financed by John D. Rockefeller, now part of the "Metropolitan Museum of Art".
The large fountain, that was the center of this cloister once, can now be seen in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. There te fountain is the center of a cloister, that once was in Saint-Genis-des-Fontaines.

There must have been a workshop of carvers within the 10th century, that probably worked near the quarries in Villefranche-de-Conflent, where the marble was cut. This workshop developed a distinctive artistic style, that can be seen as well in the prieuré de Serrabone and in Saint-Martin-du-Canigou.
More lions! This one seems to chew a twisted rope, that actually runs around it´s body. There is again a third pair of legs, that has grown out of his head like braids. The small paws rest on the shoulders.

Itom Competizione Ciclomotore 1957 50cc
The Italian company Industria Torinese Meccanica, or ITOM, started in 1948 and produced in the beginning car parts and accessoires.
After a lot of experiments with clip-on engines like the MP 58, in 1953 the Esperia was, the first Itom model with two gears.
In 1954 the Astor Sport followed, with 3 gears and pedalsn 3 versnellingen en (verplichte) pedalen.
This model was to be succeede three yers later with two versions: the Astor Super Sport and the Competizione, both also with pedals. A Competizione tuning-kit was available with reslted in a speed of 110 kmph wat toen niet geëvenaard werd door de concurrentie. Door een versoepelde Italiaanse wetgeving verdwijnen vanaf 1959 de pedalen. Voor exportmodellen bleven ze wel optioneel.
Vanaf 1963 wordt de Competizione uit produktie genomen. De Super Sport blijft de top van het gamma en krijgt 4 versnellingen mee die handbediend worden. En 2 jaar later komt het meest bekende model van Itom op de markt, de Astor 4M met 4-versnellingen aan de voet. Dit model leverde 6 Pk aan 10.000 toeren wat een snelheid van nipt geen 100 km/u betekende.
The Competizione achieved 75 Kph. These had pedals and two type of forks. Itom sold a tuning kit for competition use comprising high compression cylinder head, chrome bore cylinder, Dell' Orto SS20 carburettor, expansion chamber and piston. The pistons were of various types with either 2 or 3 rings.
The last competition models tuned with this kit were capable of 110 Kph, unfaired!
Also available as an option were Ceriani competition forks with external springs. These were fitted as standard production by 1965.

10.10.10 „Red Knights Tübingen“ - Neubeginn beim Verein SSC-Tübingen
2011 Dieses Jahr wird als einer der Erfolgreichsten und als Jahr der Rekorde in die Geschichte des Teams eingehen: Gut angekommen im neuen Verein, marschieren die Red Knights ungeschlagen durch die ganze Saison 2011 der Landesliga Baden-Württemberg. Beflügelt durch die Perfect Season und durch den Aufstieg, holen die Ritter Bronze bei einem Turnier nach dem Saisonende. Ebenfalls zum ersten Mal in der Team-Geschichte stellen die Red Knights mit Flag-, B- und A-Jugend drei Jugendmannschaften. Die magische Grenze von 100 Mitgliedern wird in diesem Jahr durch die Abteilung American Football geknackt. Ein weiterer Meilenstein – im November 11 wird ein neuer Sportplatz auf dem Holderfeld beim SSC-Tübingen eingeweiht, ein neuer Austragungsort der Heimspiele mit einer festen Footballmarkierung und Footballtoren.

The new office is clean and organized.

Of course, there's still another 50% of crap I'm resisting setting up because I'm desperate to pretend I'm tidy and organized. Truth be told... this desk and computer system could be so much worse.
Buying a new house is great in that "fresh slate" sorta' thing but starting over isn't what it's cracked up to be.
I've got a lot of decorating to do and getting some new furniture. The old stuff is pretty tired and frankly, I need a change.
Friends of RiverFront's first Plein Air Workshop took place during ArtWalk (May 16 and 17). A well-known regional Plein Air artist, Ken DeWaard, was the instructor.

This is a photograph from the start of the Tullamore Harriers AC "Quinlan Cup" Half Marathon which was held on Saturday 26th August 2017 in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, Ireland at 11:00. This is the fifth year of the event. The race is organised and promoted by Tullamore Harriers AC. The race starts on the Charleville Road just outside the entrance to Tullamore Harriers. The race proceeds south along the R421 and onto the N52 before taking a route onto local back roads. The race then completes a large rural road route before it joins to the R421 again and the final 1.5 miles are the same as the first mile of the race. The runners enter Tullamore stadium and complete one lap of the tartan track before the finish line. The course is challenging in places with some undulations along the route. But overall it is fair course. 2013 seen the first year of the event as the club commemorated the 60th Anniversary of the formation of Tullamore Harriers AC which today is one of Ireland's best known athletics clubs.

The race was perfectly organised. The weather was good for racing but there was warm summer weather for the entire race which made for warmer than usual running conditions There were stewarts all along the route, 3 drink stations with bottled water, superb facilities, and great after-race refreshments. The stewards along the route provided great encouragement to all of the runners. Tullamore Harriers and the local community really worked together to make this is a wonderful event. There was also a relay option where teams of two can run approximately 10.5km each.
As mentioned above this race half marathon started in 2013 and celebrated the 60th Anniversary (a Diamond Anniversary) of the foundation of Tullamore Harriers AC. The club was formed in the town in November 1953. However, it was almost 1979 before facilities close to what we see today open in the present day site. Over 50 provincial and national athletics meetings are held at Tullamore Harriers every year. The facilities available combined with it's central geographical location joining routes from North, South, East, and West make it a very attractive venue. The half marathon today firmly brings competitive national road racing back to "The Harriers". The Quinlan Cup which will be awarded to the winning club team. For more than 40 years the Harriers Quinlan Cup was the most prestigious event on the road racing calendar. Having started as a cross-country race back in 1957, it became a road race in 1967 and remained so until 2000 when the race was last held. During its reign as a blue-ribband event the Quinlan Cup was won by the likes of John Treacy and Eamonn Coughlan.
Today, the facilities at Tullamore Harriers are the envy of many athletics clubs in Ireland. The facilities provided by Tullamore make it one of the premier venues for local and national level athletics in Ireland. There is an Olympic standard tartan track, a fully equipped gym, changing facilities, press and media facilities, meeting room spaces, etc. The club also provides a social center and niteclub which makes "The Harriers" a very well known on the local social scene. Esssentially, the town of Tullamore would be a different place if it weren't for the presence of Tullamore Harriers AC.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As we agreed more than a month ago, the first day of homeschool was the last day for this pair of shoes for my oldest son. He asked if he cold keep them as a sort of memento. I said he could keep a picture of them. He followed me out to the porch where we made our commemorative picture. He made sad faces for me for the camera.
After placing them lovingly in the trash can, I asked him if he needed a few moments alone. He rolled his eyes at me and we laughed and headed inside.
