Spring (/sprɪŋ/ spring) is one of the four temperate seasons, the transition time between winter and summer. Spring and springtimet; refer to the season, and also to ideas of rebirth, renewal and regrowth. The specific definition of the exact timing of "spring" varies according to local climate, cultures and customs. At the spring equinox, days are close to 12 hours long with day length increasing as the season progresses.

Now Comes Spring. In May I visited a stunning lupine meadow in the coast range of northern California. Shooting right into the setting sun provided just the right kind of back lighting for the flowers appear lit by an internal power source. I was extremely fortunate to have perfect light and perfect timing for the bloom, which is only at its peak for about a week. I spent an evening and a morning here. It was a wonderful experience. I hope you enjoy the image.
Canon 5D III, 16-35mm lens at 28mm, no polarizer, F/16 and f/22 for sun star, various shutter speeds and ISO's. This was a very challenging image to develop. Seven different exposures were blended for dynamic range and depth of field. I then made heavy use of Tony Kuyper's new actions panel to gradually build in adjustments using just about every luminosity masking technique I know. The new Zone Masks section was particularly helpful.

Spring in Princes Street Gardens, right under the shadow of the Castle, spring blossoms swaying in the breeze against a bright sky. Apologies for not being quite as sharp as I hoped for, windy day, trying to focus and get close up shots inbetween gusts of wind shaking the branches around, not ideal, this was the best I managed.
Spring Woodland – This is an image made one evening last year in the Lake District. It’s a woodland that I stumbled upon at the end of a very good days mountain walking. I was within a few miles of finishing the walk and I noticed a lovely south facing woodland with a carpet of bluebells. This image was made the very next evening. Looks peaceful doesn’t it, well I can tell you behind me was two tired hungry kids been bitten to death by midges and asking me how long till we go! Happy days!
Spring is really showing up big time now. Here are a few blossoms from the azaleas in my front yard. These are with my "new" refurbished lens.
The spring petals were quite late this year due to our sudden plunge back into wintry weather the other month, but the last couple of weeks they have all blossomed big-time, and the last few days already started moulting, shedding petals every time the breeze move through the boughs, the pavements are carpeted in silken petals for a few brief days. Always wonderful to see these bloom again each spring after the long, dark winter, catching the spring sunlight, moving in the breeze...
Spring at the University of Chicago is one of my favorite times of year. The campus trees spring into blossoms, the grass starts to fill in, the animals come out to play, and the college kids start to eat their lunch all over the quads. I took this picture last spring in the Harper Quad. This is another picture in my series of campus and academic pictures this week celebrating the end of my graduate program.

Spring Blessing
Third Installment from the "Four Seasons" Buddhist series
18x18x1 giclee on canvas
Created from original photographs taken in Hawaii. "Spring Blessing" features the abhaya gesture or mudra. This gesture is also called "Gesture of Fearlessness" or "blessing" or "fearless mudra". You can find abhayamudrâ sometimes also as a left-hand gesture. It is most commonly seen with the hand outstretched in front of the buddha.
