Spring in botanical garden

The first day of spring is here and the maple trees are blooming.

Though spring is right on time, I could not resist this part of Henry Van Dyke's poem, Late Spring.

Ah, who will tell me, in these leaden days,

Why the sweet Spring delays,

And where she hides, -- the dear desire

Of every heart that longs

For bloom, and fragrance, and the ruby fire

Of maple-buds along the misty hills,

And that immortal call which fills

The waiting wood with songs?

I've been busy doing Spring chores, but here's one from a Swamp Maple in the back yard. I love the splash of color these give to the woods before everything turns green.

"The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another. The difference between them is sometimes as great as a month."

Sometimes Spring comes "later" than usual, but this year with a lot of rain, Spring came roaring in.

The tree blossoms were beautiful in Sterling Heights, and attracted this small visitor.

An unusually patient robin paused long enough for me to get this spring shot.

Cows munch on some of the best swaths of Spring color I’ve seen this year.

A beautiful sunny afternoon at a favourite place and the feeling of warmth and Spring growth was all around. A series of three pictures taken in camera to convey that feeling.

One of two Spring cakes I recently painted.

I have some pictures on my blog showing the work in progress, if you wonder how I do it.

This painting that hung in the Kentucky State Capitol really caught my attention. It has terrific composition, dynamism, shadows, and spring colors.

I can feel the ground rumble.

It's always a joy to see the spring beauties arrive. This was a couple weeks ago in central Illinois.

Yes Spring is finally here with daffodils all over the place,

These were in Claremont Gardens.

I had someone ask me how I created this shot during the day to get that deep blue sky in camera, if anyone is interested drop me a line.

Spring has sprung, and the water is starting to run high with the snow begining to melt. This is a really neat little creek up in the Columbia River Gorge. I will have to go back here again.

Spring has arrived. The cherry blossoms are ready to blossom. I don’t usually shoot flowers but this was outside me front door so I couldn’t help myself.

The lovely white flowers are native to Central and Southern Europe.

They prefer to live on rich, mildly acidic soils. Mostly in valley forests where the soil is moist enough for them. But they can appear on wet floodplain meadows where the soil is rich enough.

The plant is strongly protected by law in Germany and many other lands in Europe.

Hard to miss this beautiful home on Hwy 101..with Spring green in surrounding hillside, the home stands out even better now..

We saw this one bed of spring flowers at Belgrave Hall. The scent from the hyacinths was fabulous. Difficult to capture in a photo!
