Stachyurus chinensis - Chinese stachyurus. A small shrub in the walled garden at Rowallane. It looks very graceful with its hanging racemes of flowers. A few bees were working it for nectar on Saturday & i managed to get some pictures.

When one of our Vice-Presidents recently retired from work, he had several "vintage" rate books in his desk that predated calculators and spreadsheets. I immediatley said "I'll take them" thinking the rows of rates and numbers would make great backgrounds for masculine designs.
That little find turned out to be rather serendipitous, since the March theme at Gingersnap Creations is Work. I used the Vintage Rate Book as the background for a birthday card for a Co-Worker.
I stamped over the ratebook page with Hero Arts Envelope Pattern (what a great stamp) in Aged Mahogany Distress Ink. I was going to add flourishes to the blank space, but somehow Tim Holtz Gadget Gears seemed more appropriate since staring at financial numbers all day will certainly keep the gears spinning in your brain.
The sentiment is an oldy, but a favorite, from Stampin' Up. Papers are the new Moulan Rouge Collection from Prima. I'm also adding this card to the gallery for the Hero Arts 50 Grand Celebration ... Woot Woot!

Salix caprea 'Kilmarnock' has big male catkins which are great for the bees at this time of year.
a wonderful bee plant that fits in any garden, easy to control spread and it comes in various pre-set sizes (as it is grafted onto a stem of another willow). Smaller formats do well in a pot.
I planted this one about 12 years ago and it has grown pretty well. But for some reason, last year, there were only a handful of the male catkins. The plant seemed otherwise well but i was worried that it might have stopped producing the profusion of catkins that I had come to expect in previous years.
I am so glad to see that it has decided to make up for the lack of catkins last year!

Obviously, nothing too exciting happened today, but we did make a lot of progress in planning our weekend trip. As you can see by the beautiful spreadsheet itinerary on my laptop, we have a full weekend ahead of us. We are planning to leave Thursday for Rotorua, a town on a lake in the central north part of the north island. It is about 6 hours away so we are going to drive about halfway there on Thursday after class, camp before sunset, and finish the drive in the morning. There is lots to do in the town and the lake is beautiful, and we are also planning on seeing the volcanic hot springs there. We plan to spend all of Friday and Saturday morning there in the city and the park. After that we will drive an hour northwest to visit the Shire and Hobbiton, which was my personal request for this trip. We will camp in a different campsite close by there for the night, and then in the morning on Sunday, we will drive further west but more south to Waitomo, were there are glow worm caves with guided tours. There, we will also visit the local museum in order to complete an assignment for the Literature, Media, and Communication class we all have, before driving the 6 hours back south to Welly. All in all, it was a productive evening of aligning tour timetables, looking at the Department of Conservation website to find campsites, and renting our first car in New Zealand.

13 October 2022, Ichnya, Ukraine: School director Luidmyla Kutchovera lays her hand on a spreadsheet schedule at the desk in her office. The Ichnya school of Vasilchenko in the Ichnya municipality of Chernihiv Oblast, Ukraine — home to 540 students (boys and girls) aged 6-16 — is empty of its students, with classes taught online only, until secure bomb shelters can be restored at the school. Following the invasion of Ukraine by Russian military forces in February 2022, Ukrainian schools are no longer allowed to undertake onsite schooling without functional bomb shelters available in case or air raids or other attacks. The Lutheran World Federation collaborates with the municipality of Ichnya to help renovate existing but not-yet-functional shelters in the school basement, intended to secure protection for at least 1,000 people in case of emergency.
