This is a recipe I devised in the 1990s for an 8-US-barrel batch of 'ordinary' bitter, using a spreadsheet of my design. I never brewed it.
***************
⊲ If I were to brew it today, I might make a few ingredient changes.
☞ Honey malt in place of Munich malt.
☞ Maybe different hops, but keeping them noble lager hops or their new American analogs. (I'd want that lemony, fresh-grass aroma, without the grapefruit/tangerine/melon/cattiness of U.S./N.Z. ale hops)
☞ Swap the yeast for a more flavorful, less attenuative British yeast.
⊲ The Pilsner malt might add a touch of haziness, but that's okay. This is an American bitter, after all. Likewise, use no sugar, but flaked maize, an American ingredient. It will act to dry the beer and accentuate the bittering hops, without adding any 'corniness.' And, please: boil the allotted time, if not more. Dimethyl sulfide (DMS), the aroma of cooked corn, derived from the pilsner malt (NOT the corn), has absolutely no place in this beer.
⊲ Serve the beer cask-conditioned (or tank-'gespundet') with NO EXTRANEOUS ingredients added. Just good, refreshing, flavorful, fresh, 3.7% alcohol-by-volume, American bitter.
⊲ And keep the name: Tom is Bitter Ale!
****************
⊲ Created with Lotus WordPro spreadsheet. Remember that?
⊲ The BU Balance was my adaptation of a measure created by Ray Daniels in his book, "Designing Great Beers."

Oh look, here is the female Diadasia rinconis. We featured the relatively fuzzy male recently and you can see that the branched pollen collecting hairs on this specimen have a few stray cactus pollen balls stuck in there. Such lovely bees really. Collected by Don Harvey. Someone in the lab took the picture BUT FORGOT TO FILL OUT THE SPREADSHEET, for the shots. Its so hard to get good free labor these days.

This template is an advanced weekly inventory scheduler with one item limitation. s-S or s-Q policies may be used to automize the process. When the parameters of the system are defined, the decision of when to order and the order size are taken automatically every week by entering the demand of the week. Weekly costs including holding cost, variable order cost, fixed order cost and backorder cost are evaluated. A report is also provided on another sheet displaying the system statistics, cost distribution and inventory-demand vs. time chart. Report can be taken up to a specified week. This template is an initial study on single item inventory and may be extended to multi-item, also including other policies like lost-sale case.

...take a photo of their cards so they can't change them! They were very amused by this, and I didn't hear any moans of "but Miss, you're not allowed your phone in class!"
- Taken at 12:13 PM on January 24, 2007 - cameraphone upload by ShoZu
Instead of just haphazardly uploading pictures like I've done in the past, I've devised this spreadsheet as a guideline, at least for the time being. During my upload "slowdown period" I've managed to get a decent handle on organizing "photo mountain" as well.
I have around 3000 photos (or more!) from about 30 locations (cities, towns, 'hoods) and will generally pick a place or two from each location for the chart above. Graceland shown here in the screenshot is an exception since I want to get enough pics uploaded to have a "one year later" set established. Of course new pics will probably push everything else down the list, but at least I have a plan in place!
Once I've gone through the list, I will randomize it by sorting on the "rand #" column and start again (after some prioritization of course!) The plan is to upload photos in batches 3 or 4 at a time. For the geotag of this screenshot, I put it right where the three state boundaries intersect for Mississippi, Tennessee, and Arkansas.
Interesting day today. Did some family stuff this morning and then this afternoon went to see the new Indiana Jones. As I was sitting in the theater before the movie started, a familiar-looking fellow walked up the aisle then paused. I stared at him until he turned his head and we gave each other this "what the hell?!?" look -- we were really good friends when we were in high school (he was probably my bestestestest friend for awhile) but we haven't seen each other for about three years. He sat next to me (his wife, stepson and dad soon joined) and he and I chatted for awhile, partly having that "Oh God, we're grownups" conversation that seems inevitable when it comes to meeting up with people from days when we were most definitely not grownups, and partly having the "So, do you think this movie is going to ruin the Indiana Jones legacy and therefore destroy all fond memories of your childhood?" conversation.
After the movie was over we turned to each other and I said, "Well, it didn't destroy my childhood" and he said "Yeah" and as of right now, that's pretty much all I have to say about it... my internal jury is still out. Which is not to say that it was bad or not entertaining, because it wasn't either of those things, it just wasn't Raiders of the Lost Ark.
And then I came home and started setting up my spreadsheet to track survey data for this reading survey I'm doing because I'm insane. (Actually, so far, it's looking interesting, so I'm sure that trend will continue.) I think I might give up on Excel for the night though because I have other things to do that in no way involve numbers, and those sound better to me at present.
And there's the report. Good evening.

Up at 5 and feeling well rested. I spend an hour and a half working on my taxes. Spreadsheets made, more receipts gathered. I have to think about business income and expenses this year. Lots of information put into TurboTax. I make a really good dent. Then I buy a more up-to-date version of Office. I hadn't realized how old mine was. Ready for work and out the door late but I'm going to be at work late so it all works out. Work. Another of the very few women leaders is leaving. I consider her an ally. It's a real loss for the department and for me. We started on the same day nearly 13 years ago. Work is finally over and Elise is picking H, a coworker, and I up for the commute to the North Shore. Elise has brought sandwiches, chips, and beverages. It is lovely. And yummy. Brene time!!! I've brought along a little package of tissues. I know what she does to me. Something always lands on my heart. She is one of the people who has given language to my core values. The practices I hold dear. The wholehearted way I want to live my life. Being afraid but courageous at the same time. Getting my butt kicked and getting back up again because I know I am worth it. Yoga does the same for me. As expected she is wonderful, funny, and insightful. She speaks of criticism and how the people sitting up in the cheap seats hurling blame and judgement don't deserve to hear our story, our vulnerable moments. That hearing our story is reserved for the people willing to be there with us without judgement. She speaks of hope and how it is a function of struggle. The necessity of getting in the arena and being ready for plan B. The importance of not just preaching but also practicing. She tells a story about her daughter and a swimming meet. It's a stroke she hates but still she gets in the pool. Everyone is finished well before her, but the winning was getting in the pool. The willingness to get wet. My eyes fill. I understand that so well recently. That the first win is being courageous, the next win is having fun, and the one after that is letting it unfold as it will. I'm so inspired. And happy, content. Filled with things to think about. It's the drive back to work then the drive to home. Into bed. Such a good day.

Here's why making this graph is easy for anyone in a modern grid.
I should note that 30 kWh used each day is about typical for Ontario, according to OPG. Our main reduction efforts so far are 1) switching to CFL bulbs and 2) having a small house and a small TV. Water and house heat are gas, dryer and refridgeration are electric. We have no chest freezer.
Innovation with grammatically encoded chromosomes evolving into new forms by means of crossover and, ultimately (downstream) particulate mutation.
The colour coding retains the genetic origins of the (four in this case) starting 'elite' group couplings of (separable) 'qualifier/object' in subsequent generations of offspring.
interesting that starting with four general descriptions of 'known' useful inventions (internal combustion engine, CD/DVD player, distillation column and turbine generator) that even the first new generation has useful developments (not included in original specifications) of 'rotating column' (increased gravitational field aids in distillation and heat transfer), 'valved surface' (dsitillation column valved trays) and 'rotating field'...
Coated cylinders also have extensive applications throughout industrial processes.
