Retrocomputing (a portmanteau of retro and computing) is the use of early computer hardware and software today. Retrocomputing is usually classed as a hobby and recreation rather than a practical application of technology; enthusiasts often collect rare and valuable hardware and software for sentimental reasons. However some do make use of it.[1] Retrocomputing often gets its start when a computer user realizes that expensive fantasy systems like IBM Mainframes, DEC Superminis, SGI workstations and Cray Supercomputers have become affordable on the used computer market, usually in a relatively short time after the computers' era of use.

We need to teach the spreadsheet how to get the slopes between data points that I have highlighted in black here. Essentially, we need to put the slope formula into the spreadsheet. The third version I have listed will be the most helpful.

Newest tweak of my log to track my C41 chemistry. I've added notation for Camera and Film. As I use various cameras and film from my inventory, I'll add to the notation legend

boring picture, boring day. i spent probably 10 hours entering complex formulas into my spreadsheet for work.

A Photo from Day 4 of a 10 day 9 night "Railway Tour" of 13 Museums and Heritage Railway Locations. The Main Aim was to get as many Steam Train Journeys to add to my Steam Powered Journeys Spreadsheet which is my modern "Trainspotting" record.

The West Somerset Railway runs trains from Bishops Lydeard station to Dunster with a bus transfer to Minehead at the moment due to a problem with a level crossing.

There is ample car parking at the Bishops Lydeard end of the line so I started there.

The day I went during the sort of main summer holidays, there were 3 steam excursion running hauled by Steam Locomotives.

Here, 7822 "Foxcote Manor" is about to power the Steam Excursion I have a ticket for.

7822 is a Collett designed GWR "Manor Class" 4-6-0 loco.

I always liked how my birth month lines up perfectly with the line number of my birthday when I make these spreadsheets.

As does my brother's. And Christmas.

The plan, which came pretty close to being executed perfectly.

I did this in Excel, with the spreadsheet cells sized to equal one inch in scale. Yes, it is scary.

Basically, when we started to think about redoing the bathroom we were torn between the subway-tile retro look and the modern look of tiny blue glass tiles. I struggled to think of how they could come together (and a very-high-end D.C. design house basically told me they couldn't come together, and that we should think of neutral colors for resale value!). Finally, I saw a photo in a magazine that showed subway tiles as wainscoting and 1-inch-by-1-inch tiles above that. I wish I had saved the picture -- the idea was much more in the earth-tone vein, but it made things click for me.

I'm very proud of this design, though I admit that it's a shameless mishmash of periods. The subway tile and the mosaic floor and the Art Deco sconces and maybe the schoolhouse pendant are sorta 1920s. The kneewall of glass block is sorta '50s-cum-'80s. The blue glass is late '90s. The towel bars are contemporary, and the vanity is that Restoration Hardware retro "apothecary" look, which may or may not have existed in any decade previous to the 1990s. The sink is a simple drop-in, and the faucets will be retro in their own way, with cross-style handles. Polished chrome is the metal choice throughout.

The shower hardware is British and traditional, with a rain head that is traditional in its own way while also being rather current.

There's an intriguing social data experiment happening when we publish data to Google Spreadsheets from The Guardian Data Store.

You can see who else is looking at the data and chat with them in real time in the panel on the right-hand side of the spreadsheet.

This post on the Data Blog is the official Iran elections data by province.

"What really happened in Iran during that election count? As thousands protest against the results and demonstrate, we've gone to the Iranian Ministry of the Interior to get the official version of events.

We've then got the Presidential Office's eligible voters by region data to so we can work out what the turnout as in each case. Whether you believe over 99% turnouts anywhere is one thing, but this data is only the beginning."

I have worn eyeglasses since I was 12 years old, and probably needed them a few years before then - I had to sit in the front row at school, and the teacher finally noticed in 6th grade that I couldn't see what was written on the board.

Now I have 2 pair of eyeglasses - 1 for computer work & reading and one for distance & driving.

I took a brief break today from massaging Excel worksheets to rest my eyes and take a picture "through the lens".

What a change in perspective I have with eyeglasses on or off !
