This week-end involved 2 Heritage Railways with the Main Aim was to get as many Steam Train Journeys to add to my Steam Powered Journeys Spreadsheet which is my modern "Trainspotting" record.

Here, after arriving at the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway (EVR) for their Steam in the Valley 21 Event and going on a journey behind Steam Locomotive "Henry Ellison" from Wirksworth Station on a train up the very steep 1 in 27 Ravenstor Incline, I went along the line to Duffield Station.

I have close to 300 dahlias planted this year. I normally hand write labels for identification. This year I am trying out a new system. I have a spreadsheet on Google that I list all of my dahlias. I exported the sheet to an OpenOffice format (.ods). Using OpenOffice I created an OpenOffice database. Then I used the Label function in OO to generate labels. I used Avery 1X2 5/8 labels with a laser printer. I had a ton of these address labels from a previous life. The plant sticks (markers from www.dpind.com) that I use are only 5/8 inches wide, so I had to fold the label over. Not shown in the photo, the reverse side has some additional plant info (in a smaller font). Time will tell if these labels will last through the season. I normally use Sharpie industrial pens. Normal ink tends to fade out quickly. This whole process was very easy to do. However, I did spend a lot of time checking out different fonts. Detailed instructions on how to print labels from OO can be found on the web. Printing labels like this will also help quite a bit when I store the tubers over winter.

Today the houseboy put away his calculator and spreadsheets and donned safety gear to spend the day out on the tracks. He took this photo for me with his iPhone, and I added a bit of HDR flair to make it mine (heh!)

This is a high-rail vehicle, meaning it can operate both on rail tracks and a conventional road. The rail wheels are raised and lowered as needed.

I remember sitting on the 401 highway in Toronto for hours in traffic, trying to get home, and wishing I had one of these trucks so I could hop on the tracks adjacent to the road and be home in no time flat.

For Our Daily Challenge.

The challenge - Travel

I have discovered the fun of spreadsheets! They are going to help me get more trains in 2017 I hope, as well as keep a record of what I see. Plus they make for great rainy day fun as a bonus.

By using this sheet recently I was able to catch three trains I would have normally missed because I now have the next location I could get to before they did. Life is good and it just got better!

Bit of a full on day today so used one of my Y6 Computing classes to take POTD. We were creating spreadsheets to set up budgets for a theme park - technical, but fun.

I have worn eyeglasses since I was 12 years old, and probably needed them a few years before then - I had to sit in the front row at school, and the teacher finally noticed in 6th grade that I couldn't see what was written on the board.

Now I have 2 pair of eyeglasses - 1 for computer work & reading and one for distance & driving.

I took a brief break today from massaging Excel worksheets to rest my eyes and take a picture "through the lens".

What a change in perspective I have with eyeglasses on or off !

The story of today was me spending eight or nine hours manually transcribing the school timetable from my spreadsheet to the horrible timetabling software. That wasn't very photogenic, so here's a photo from today but a story from yesterday.

The bottom lamp in this traffic signal had come loose and has been swinging free all week. I noticed it again yesterday while walking in the morning and called it in to the Council in the hope it might get fixed within a few weeks.

It was fixed within two hours. :O

Clio's spreadsheet showed she was low on orange dresses; corrective action was taken. People made fun of her spreadsheet, but who's laughing now?!? WHO'S LAUGHING NOW?!?!!

Clio also made a "makeup mask" because it was Halloween. And check out the new Ed Hardy boots!

Transition Progress at this point: On hormones since 8/1 (3 months), full-time female since 9/15 (6 weeks), publicly out as trans since 10/11 (2 weeks). Boobs sore/growing since 9/4 (7 weeks). Had seen endocrinologist/primary therapist 3X, and concluded secondary therapy after 7 sessions w/2 therapists. Weight down to 141lbs (56lbs down from 2012's 197). Hair removal includes 18 electrolysis treatments totaling 14.25 hours; 25 laser hair removal sessions (41 area treatments: 12/11 mouth/face&neck, 7 chest/armpit, 6 leg, 5 Brazilian, 4 ear); and bi-weekly at-home IPL on arms since 6/17 (4 months). Latisse for eyelash lengthening since 4/17 (6 months). 2 dental implants. Pierced ears. Dyed/layered hair (no haircuts for 2.75yrs--since 1/2015). Female wardrobe replacement was up to 203 items. Total transition expenditures were over $12,000 at this point.

Oh look, here is the female Diadasia rinconis. We featured the relatively fuzzy male recently and you can see that the branched pollen collecting hairs on this specimen have a few stray cactus pollen balls stuck in there. Such lovely bees really. Collected by Don Harvey. Someone in the lab took the picture BUT FORGOT TO FILL OUT THE SPREADSHEET, for the shots. Its so hard to get good free labor these days.

Mike, Bethan, Lucas and I have a spreadsheet for the two weeks Bethan & Lucas are with us, as it's all so complicated! Today, we'd planned for a day out to Slimbridge. In spite of the the weather being cold and rather breezy, some activities being curtailed due to avian flu precautions, and the sighting of the fewest birds we've ever seen there... we had quite a nice time 😆! Lucas wasn't bothered by the cold, and enjoyed seeing what birds there were, and had fun in Welly Boot Land. His highlights were probably 'picnic' (the packed lunch we took with us) and the soft play area at the end - it was so good to warm up!

Lucas slept on the way back, and we took him to Witney, to go to James's until tomorrow afternoon. Once back home, we all had a good rest!

holga + portra

It was too hot to do much of anything this weekend, so I organised my life into excel spreadsheets (hello, my name is megan and I am incredibly anal), researched travel in the middle east and was bitten about fifteen times by the one mosquito while watching Revolutionary Road.

Might I just add - I have been using Picasa for Mac for a couple of weeks now, and it is super-freaking awesome. As my iPhoto library crept (ok, more rocketed) into the 1000s, it got slower and slower until I pretty much now have to go and get a cup of coffee while waiting for an image to load properly.

Picasa, on the other hand, is all zippy and speedy. I can actually scroll quickly through my library without smoke coming from my logic board. Woohoo!

This is an early 1980's Sanyo model DM8112CX green phosphor computer monitor. In this photo it is connected to a BBC Model B computer via a composite video cable. The application running is "Inter Sheet", a spreadsheet program for the BBC Micro.
