Metra inbound train 2620 splits the Glenview fireworks show crowd in half as it makes a rather long stop at the North Glenview station. As a result of the fireworks, an eerie fog has blown in from Gallery Park, where they are being launched. Also in the background are some fireworks from nearby Northbrook.

Ask yourself this.

Could you do a standing jump nearly 5 feet into the air...

And do the splits...

And remember to look up at the camera...

And smile?

Lizzie can.

Situated in one of the most spectacular sceneries of Lågendalen you find the Kjærra Waterfalls Park. The Park, covering areas on both sides of the river, derives its name from the famous Kjærra Waterfalls, where the river splits into two separate courses: the eastern falls and the western falls.

On this part of the river – within the Park area – you will find the largest concentration of traditional salmon fishing equipment in Norway. Through centuries of experience, traps and nets of various shapes have been carefully adapted to the special conditions of the river with its waterfalls and currents.

The most famous trap is the Kjærra Fishing dating back to medieval times, the earliest recording of its existence being 1388 A.D. The trap consists of three big piers between two of which the wooden trap is situated. After having jumped the falls, some of the salmon are caught in the trap. At 6 p.m. every Thursday during the summer (June 15 through August 30) the salmon is landed - to the ovation of hundreds of spectators. In 1999 this fish trap was awarded “Olavsrosa”, the diploma of Norwegian Cultural Heritage

Several places along the river – both within the Park and outside – anglers may obtain fishing permits.

Named for the nearby Pripyat River, Pripyat was founded on 4 February 1970, the ninth nuclear city in the Soviet Union, for the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. It was officially proclaimed a city in 1979, and had grown to a population of 49,360 before being evacuated a few days after the 26 April 1986 Chernobyl disaster.

Though Pripyat is located within the administrative district of Ivankiv Raion, the abandoned city now has a special status within the larger Kiev Oblast (province), being administered directly from Kiev. Pripyat is also supervised by Ukraine's Ministry of Emergencies, which manages activities for the entire Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.

Access to Pripyat, unlike cities of military importance, was not restricted before the disaster as nuclear power stations were seen by the Soviet Union as safer than other types of power plants. Nuclear power stations were presented as being an achievement of Soviet engineering, where nuclear power was harnessed for peaceful projects. The slogan "peaceful atom" (Russian: mirnyj atom) was popular during those times. The original plan had been to build the plant only 25 km (16 mi) from Kiev, but the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, among other bodies, expressed concern about it being too close to the city. As a result, the power station and Pripyat were built at their current locations, about 100 km (62 mi) from Kiev. After the disaster the city of Pripyat was evacuated in two days.

Right ahead line 90 towards Binche (with railway crossing), to the left line 92 to Thuin.

The crossing goods railway Piéton-Anderlues was broken up in 1989, but the tramway bifurcation is still there, although only the tracks to the left are in use. The junction is covered by a highway overpass now

For years, decades in some cases, I've had in the garage junks of wood too hard or thick for me to chop into splits, and too big for the fireplace. My wife gave me (the promise of) a log-splitter for my birthday a few months ago; a few days ago it arrived. I am pleased to announce that all but two of those big junks are now split and ready for the fire.

It’s sad to see what we do to some of the trees in our neighborhoods. I'd say this makes a strong case for underground utility lines.

1/18 Scale – 1969

Although stated on the box as being 1/25 scale, the Banana Buggy is approximately 1/18. Another scale discrepancy lies with the figures, which are slightly undersize in relation to the vehicle.

A mud slide 3 - 5 feet deep crosses US 395 and splits into three branches blocking Topaz Park Road on the evening of May 21. The car in the photo was trapped between two of the flows for several hours... a dangerous place to be ni the event of another slide!

The hillsides denuded by the Slinkard Fire last year are susceptible to slides when we get heavy downpours. Fortunately this time it only rained hard for an hour or so.

395 is back open, but more rain is in the forecast for the coming days!

Colorado Springs, CO - There is a banana in there somewhere. I think it's hiding. It was fun taking pictures of this edible art piece but I think the best part was eating it.

Sometimes, just sometimes mind, I feel like there are many different versions of me in my head which are all trying to have their say. Luckily I can usually bitch slap them down and gain control in a second or two but this poor dear has no such luck. She's stuck with her multiple belligerent personalities nearly all day everyday and it is driving her close to madness. She is graced with an astounding beauty though so many men think that she is unbelievably amazing and that she should be their girlfriend. Unfortunately most men just can't handle those levels of craziness but if any of them had looked upon the Maskell-Williams sexy/crazy scale then they would have found out that it just wasn't going to work out...

Cheers

Looking down the aisle that basically splits the store in half, the wine department's wood-like flooring is visible here. The produce & bakery departments are on the other side of the wall.

3688 Center Rd, Brunswick, OH

This store was built in 1998, according to county property records. It began its life as a Tops and closed when the chain exited Northeastern Ohio in 2006. Buehler's opened at this location in early 2007 as their first "repurposed" store and renovated the interior in 2009.

Local, LNB41 17, splits the searchlights of B347 on UP's Omaha sub. I had a short time in the area and saw this train coming south out of Mo Valley, so I took what I could. I was actually surprised there was any early morning sunlight, which allows for some sun on the nose of 4308. A pair of SD70Ms powered this, 4308,4204.

A Worcester bound GWR train splits an aging pair of semaphores that guard the Moreton-in-Marsh station.

A newer set of power, LED headlights and a boring wedge frame don't really help this picture out, but don't think a redo will come so easily.. After hearing that my dad and I would have some time off and a car during our trip to the UK I instantly got on google maps to check if there was anything of interest nearby. This search lead me to Moreton-in-Marsh, a smaller town in the Cotswold's that had the pair of semaphores you see here. Form the very limited research I did on these oddball signals (at least for NA standards) I found that they managed to stick around as a result of GWR upgrades further down the line taking up too much of the budget. I had wanted a North facing shot at the station which was miles better than this. I was also running out of space on my SD card so in anticipation for this train I deleted every test shot I had taken while trying to get the prefect frame but due to some "infrastructure issues" that oncoming train seemingly vanished and all hopes for my better shot of the British semaphores with it as well.
