The river Skjálfandafljót splits into two streams due to the cliff to the left before forming the formidable Goðafoss waterfall in the Central-North region of Iceland. This makes the fall to be shaped like half a horse shoe with two main drops and several smaller spouts. In this panorama I have opted for a normal shutter speed to rather show the might of the river.
Grevillea is a diverse genus of about 360 species of evergreen flowering plants in the family Proteaceae, native to rainforest and more open habitats in Australia, New Guinea, New Caledonia, Sulawesi and other Indonesian islands. The species range from prostrate shrubs less than 50 cm tall to trees 35 m tall. Common names include grevillea, spider flower, silky oak and toothbrush plant. The brightly coloured, petal-less flowers consist of a calyx tube that splits into 4 lobes with long styles. They are good bird-attracting plants, honeyeaters in particular are common visitors. Grevillea flowers were a traditional favourite among Aborigines for their sweet nectar. This could be shaken onto the hand to enjoy, or into a coolamon with a little water to make a sweet drink. They might be referred to as the original bush lollies. 11516

Former MKT 611’s P5 echos through the valley as RBMN’s NRMV splits the G style signals at Berne, Pennsylvania with 91 loads of New St. Nick Anthracite; now headed north after being weighed to 1 track at Muller to be stored until NS can pick it up in Reading. I always enjoyed running the 3051, has an old order light in the control stand and all.
It will be a while before it is Easter, but Easterbear is already in the Netherlands. He visits a good friend: Ballet dancer Piggolina Ballerina.
PIGGOLINA BALLERINA:
How nice to see you again Easter Bear. It's been a year since we've spoken. You look good.
EASTER BEAR:
Thank you Piggolina. You're looking good too.
PIGGOLINA BALLERINA:
I'm just really busy you know. Soon I will have a ballet performance with the famous Scoutlova. I practise 6 hours every day.
EASTER BEAR:
Can you show some of your exercises?
PIGGOLINA BALLERINA:
I'll show you the splits.
EASTER BEAR:
Wow! How do you do that?
PIGGOLINA BALLERINA:
It's just stretch into splits
EASTER BEAR: (trying the splits....only half way)
Ouch....help Piggolina....I can't go any further.
PIGGOLINA BALLERINA:
Come...give me your paw....I'll pull you up.
Let's go for a drink...that seems more sensible to me.
EASTER BEAR:
I will never do this again!!!!!!!!!!!!
M693 splits the Calgon intermediates. These signals were cut over in December of 22. Though the Big Sandy was not our focus of the trip it was nice to take a small break off and see what it had to offer. Lots of new ideas for a return trip.

L585 splits a set of IC-installed intermediates south/west of Roberts, Illinois as it nears its destination and turning point of Gilman.
Poor little Samson had a hard day on Monday. He went to the vet for his shots and it made the poor little guy sleepy. Isn't he adorable? =) I sure think so!
p.s. He felt better the next day. Poor guy had shots on Friday and then Monday. The vet splits them up b/c he gets a reaction and sore hip from the needles.
Explore #288 =) Thanks for your comments.
I love the way this tree splits into two distinctly different characters. One all straight and normal while the other seems full of fun and mischief!! Taken at Sherwood Forest
A break in the cloud just over the town of population 4,300 (as of June 2022) and one hours drive south of our city. The Clutha river /Mata-au (Maori) splits on the left creating the island of farmland know as Inch Clutha.
Our Piper Chieftain was flying lower than usual I presume to stay out of that dirty cloud but it was still a bumpy ride :)
Have a good Wednesday and thank you especially for comments.
The night-flowering catchfly is an annual herb producing a hairy, glandular stem up to about 75 or 80 centimeters in maximum height. It is sticky in texture. The hairy, widely lance-shaped leaves grow in opposite pairs and are up to 14 centimeters long and 5 wide, the largest ones located low on the stem. The flowers are nocturnal,[4] and occur in an open cyme of up to fifteen blooms, each borne on an erect pedicel. The flower is encapsulated in a hairy calyx of fused sepals lined with a netlike pattern of veining. The five petals are white to pink and each has two lobes at the tip. They measure up to 2.5 centimeters wide when fully open. The fruit is a yellowish-brown capsule with six chambers which splits open to release the seeds.[5]
18M splits the signals at Long Island behind BNSF 7704. These CPL's are one of many pairs that are still in place on the former Virginain between Altavista and Patrick Henry.
The River Wandle is a tributary of the River Thames in south London, England. With a total length of about 9 miles (14 km), the river passes through the London boroughs of Croydon, Sutton, Merton and Wandsworth, where it reaches the Thames. Shortly before reaching the Thames the navigable Bell Lane Creek splits from the river, rejoining close to the confluence.
Splitting bark on birch.
The main reason that birches split or shed their bark is that the tree is growing. As the bark can't stretch or expand, it splits making way for the next layer underneath. The patterns created can be fantastic and the contrasts between old and new are lovely too.

Popping out of the north portal of Sandy Ridge Tunnel, CSX manifest Q692 splits the classic Clinchfield era signals that still protect the south end of Trammel siding. With the grade out of Dante now behind them, the train will ride primarily down hill all the way to Elkhorn City.
The Erie heritage unit has made several round trips on NS/Pan Am container trains 22K/23K over the course of the month of April. On its fourth trip so far, the unit is seen leading westbound train 23K into the low evening sun at Erving, MA, as he splits the equilateral turnout at CPF-370 and passes the Erving Industries paper mill.
Knocking off mile my mile and cruising at every bit of track speed train 107 with a LNG set up front splits the 63 signals in the middle of Dorena siding. The entire 20 hours or so on the FEC were irritating, frustrating and just rather interesting. From wild hogs going nuts in the woods next to me here, the homeless life in Saint Augustine coming out of the thicket and almost getting hit to just getting plan ole cloud fucked, and trains running way off schedule on a fairly scheduled railroad. FEC was not my friend this trip but I did still get a few decent trains.
The Bear River splits around a small island of hardwood trees, comes together again on the other side, and resumes its course. On one side the little island, the river moves smooth and quiet in the morning sunlight. On the other side, it crashes angrily through a shady spot full of rocks. This scene feels like a metaphor for my recent life.
Recently, our long time band lost two of its members. This past weekend we came together with many old friends and memorialized them with a two day musical event in Arnold, CA. It wasn't exactly a Viking's send off, but it was poignant none-the-less. As I say goodbye to old friends, I eagerly await the arrival of a new one. Today is the due date for our first grand baby. The cycle of life rolls on.
Like the river, life is always changing and always moving forward--through dangerous rapids and smooth flowing quiet spots it splashes on. There is beauty to be found in all of it--if you dare to look.

T52 with a fresh paint UP leader splits the intermediate signals at Coran on the Appalachia District. Once it reaches Bulls Gap in a few miles the train will fill out and proceed West towards Knoxville as 101.
Train Z127-07 from Flint, MI splits the C&O searchlights at North Holly with LSRC 6355 (SD50-3) leading LSRC 6303 (SD40-2). Seen here approaching downtown Holly, MI on their trip south to Wixom, MI on the LSRC Saginaw Sub. Taken: 2-7-21
CN A439 splits the station signs at Northwood as they head west towards Windsor. An increasingly rare "Blue Devil" was assigned to this run for about 2 weeks giving many opportunities for chasing. A much more common Blue Jay can be seen flying next to the Northwood sign on the left.

► █░▓ IT WAS JUST 16 minutes left to sunset, no shades any more, and everything cast by a distinct reddish hue, which is why it is known as "golden hour". Fairly strong wind made plants shaky, hence blurry. I corrected contrast and color of this jpeg (done with AWB) in post within Affinity Photo and sharpened just slightly in Irfan View.
Perhaps this was the first summer day in our place, as after the sunset there was for the first time this year no sudden coolness pervading the air above De Avelingen. God has blessed us with such dreamy moments and many cycles of seasons. At this junction point the road over the Nieuwe Wolpherensedijk makes sharp turn southwards over the Rivierdijk at the same level. Here behind my back the Wolverensedijk actually continues along the Steenenhoek kanaal but looses height and pavement. This grassy land extends some 5 km westwards to the end of what virtually is an island. Boven-Hardinxveld is a very exciting point where the largest branch of what was Rhine river before entering the Low Lands, splits into two leaving another island in-between, largely uninhabited and known as Merwelanden. The westernmost point of which reaches Dordrecht's historical old town, which is said to be the oldest Dutch urban settlement by and large.
Up above this canal run parallel the A15 motorway and two separate railway tracks, which I cropped out.
I tested here the Panasonic GX9 with the Lumix standard kit zoom 12-60 mm f/3.5-5.6 at "classical" wide angle of 17 mm (35 mm in 24×36 mm Leica-film). Taken from a sturdy fence pole providing good support for the camera. So the lens could show her potential. At least over the flowers which were not moving in the wind.
J37 splits the intermediate searchlights south of Waterous. It's a shame these signals are in such a terrible location, as they are some of the last searchlights remaining in the region.
An Ex-SP SD45T-2 splits the decommissioned Rock Island Searchlights with KYLE Train LLISA 26 switching the Flagler Equity Co-Op Elevator on the line to Limon. Trailing is a former N&W GP40. The 9330 would later be purchased by G&W and assigned KYLE initials.

CSX Q576 splits the BC-58 signals in the small town of Holton, Indiana, a town of just over 400 on the historic B&O mainline to Saint Louis. Holton's post office, located on the left, has been in continuous operation since the railroad arrived in 1854.
