The Milky Way over one of the houses at the observatory.

I'm writing this description, beginning of August, 2015. More of a recap of the Milky Way over the past 4 months of photographing it.

I started off having no clue what I was doing. I was driving 2 hours a night, taking photos for 20 minutes with the car running the whole time.... usually next to someone's farm land. I downloaded one app to help, then another, then bought a lens, then an intervalometer, got some free stuff from Triggertrap, started learning more, doing more. Began time lapsing, something I was interested about turned into something I was passionate about. I was recognized for it all over the world, my photos were purchased by people from all over the world. Milky Way photos of mine exist on websites across the internet.

Never in my life did I think my photography could have people all over the globe amped about it. This is all just the beginning.

This Composing is made with NI (Natural Inteligence). Moon, Stars and Asteroids are made with Photoshop. NI needs much more time than AI. But for me it's much more fun to create something by myself.

SpaceEngine - A free space simulation program that lets you explore the universe in three dimensions, from planet Earth to the most distant galaxies. Areas of the known universe are represented using actual astronomical data, while regions uncharted by astronomy are generated procedurally. Millions of galaxies, trillions of stars, countless planets - all available for exploration. You can land any planet, moon or asteroid and watch alien landscapes and celestial phenomena. You can even pilot starships and atmospheric shuttles.

Assignment: PCA129 – Vacant (or Empty) Spaces

Oct 31 - Nov 14, 2010

Image Tag: pca129

From: The Tamed Shrew (Kate)

Mission:

To compose a picture with Vacant (or Empty) Spaces as the subject.

This could be architectural, landscapes, still life or even a candid or portrait conveying that vacant space feeling.

I really don’t want to see just darkness, it has to be an empty space with its own identity.

Examples:

www.tate.org.uk/youngtate/examhelp/themes/emptyspaces.htm

www.fotosearch.com/photos-images/empty-space.html

Challenges here are composition, as always, and the use of natural or artificial lighting to get across your message.

WIT

I have been a bit under the weather but had to drive to Boston to pick my sons up from the station after their visit to Providence to see a University. I used Google maps to look for a place somewhere between our house and Boston where there were rocks leading out into the sea and settled on a place in Swampscott.

The tide was out and Anne and I had a pretty nice walk along the beach promenade, me stopping to take long exposures of the sea. I was shooting specifically for the assignment today so took a few of empty tables where we ate lunch and of various empty spaces in the sea.

I settled on this one from the day - I like the line of Nahant Island in the distance and the rocks in the foreground. I hope you do too. I was shooting minute and 90sec exposures using an ND#110 (a 10 stop neutral density filter).

Not a real space photo. Light art.

Testing new light painting/plastic combo for dense, small starfield and elliptical galaxies.

Single exposure. Nebula pattern created using new Waterworld technique - 100mm lens. Galaxies using light painted plastic, and star field using LED's and laser, some with 0.003-inch (8X) flyfishing line on lens to create cross-shaped diffraction patterns - 16-35mm lens at 20mm-35mm. No other significant Photoshop manipulations, except image resize.
