I often find myself looking out the windows of abandoned places. It's a natural tendency when I'm inside of a house, particularly one I'm unfamiliar with. I like to see the view, but it also helps me understand the connection of the building to its environment. In a case like this it's impossible not to think about the lives of the families that once called this place home. I'm sure this view into the front yard was admired often on days like this. Cozy to be indoors on a cold autumn day. Shadows were lengthening during my visit as sunset wasn't far off, but I could still make out the muted colors of fallen autumn leaves on the lawn. Except in my case the house was filled with dampness, cold and wind entering from a collapsed roof behind me. The structure no longer offered comfort, warmth, safety or security. All of that long gone, and discernible only as a memory, perhaps a reflection in the dirty window panes, or shore need in what was left of an old curtain still hanging on as old house curtains often do. Remarkable in a way, a flimsy curtain still hangs when the roof is gone; an old wall calendar still charts the course of a month now 25 years gone. Remnants of past lives, happiness and laughter that once filled this place. My mind jolted back into the present as a gust of wind blew through this old living space, momentarily animating the curtain in front of me, as if by unseen hands. I looked down at my feet, balanced precariously on the floor joist that had led me to this window. Earlier I had crept across it as if on a balance beam and it was now time to make my way back, to leave this dead space. As I crossed the threshold that took me back into light and fresh air, I felt that odd goosebump sensation. Relief but coupled with that joint feeling of fear and excitement about having been in such a dark place.
Space Oddity is my first entry for the League of Lego Heroes group. The inspiraton comes from David Bowie's song and Martian Manhunter.
Back in the late 50s, when Guri Yagarin's spaceship lost contact with Earth, nobody expected to hear or see him again. Specialists said that was the beginning of the end for the International Space Program, even though it lasted a few more decades.
But a few and spread out rumours of a green entity branding the Space Program symbol began a few years later. The weird stories reached a peak of popularity when a famous musician claimed to have met the entity during the 70s.
With the strong activity of super heroes these rumours started again, and the existence of the entity was confirmed during an epic fight in a crowded park.
Those who have heard Space Oddity's telepathic voice say he warns of disastrous events yet to come, but most have become mentally ill and are no longer able to provide reliable information.
So far the entity seems to be able to fly, move objects from a distance, and teleport. It is unknown if it is actually Guri Yagarin or something else. It's interactions with other people have been limited to telepathic communication and using it's powers to save them from any immediate danger.

I shot this for the Macro Mondays group theme of Negative Space: 16/01/2012.
This week saw me looking at all sorts of subjects for the weekly theme! I could have easily set-up something in my tabletop studio, but, as the weather has been quite nice, I wanted to shoot something outside for a change!
I was wandering around dad's garden when this knotty hazelwood tree branch caught my attention! I quite liked the backlit hairs on the branch!
I think it fits the theme quite nicely!

It was an unusually stressful week so we all took the day off and headed up to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. This astronaut photo is one of my favorite images in the space center.

This is a slightly different 3D print, most notably the front section has more screen accurate surface detailing.

The Space Shuttle Enterprise is shown on display at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center near Washington Dulles International Airport. Its career was brief, making its first flight on Aug. 12, 1977, and its last flight the same year on Oct. 26. The craft, which was not built for actual space flight, was moved in 2012 to New York City. (Scanned from a slide)
SpaceEngine - A free space simulation program that lets you explore the universe in three dimensions, from planet Earth to the most distant galaxies. Areas of the known universe are represented using actual astronomical data, while regions uncharted by astronomy are generated procedurally. Millions of galaxies, trillions of stars, countless planets - all available for exploration. You can land any planet, moon or asteroid and watch alien landscapes and celestial phenomena. You can even pilot starships and atmospheric shuttles.
First of three Space Sticker Sheets ready! Tried to make them a good fit for Mech as well! Heck I cant wait myself!! All three will be avalible early 2019! thecooperworks.com

This shot was taken from the base of the Needle, looking up past a ferris wheel in motion. Thanks for the inspiration Frank =)
