I had the beach all to myself this morning ... probably because there wasn't a colourful sunrise.

It really wasn't that cold and I didn't need gloves. But I could see the rain clouds gathering and that's what's forecast for the rest of the day.

Hope everyone has a lovely Christmas, with lots of nice things to eat and drink.

Indefinite spaces S, 1963, Francisco Sobrino.

Sobrino left Spain for Buenos Aires in 1949, where he came into contact with the artists of the group Arte Concreto-Invención. He then moved to Paris in 1958, where he became one of the founding members of the Groupe de Recherche d’Art Visuel (GRAV) in 1960. This is also when he started making sculptures out of simple geometric forms, cut from tinted transparent plastic sheets and arranged in regular structures. The effects of combination and layering deliberately make it difficult to determine the position of each shape in space and in relation to each other.

Looking Close on Friday: "Spirals" theme

A vintage toy from the 1950s, Space Satellite is a toy/game that I had as a kid. It requires the player to tilt the card in a way that rolls the ball bearing "satellite" up a molded plastic spiral to a resting place on top of the spiral. It's not easy to do, by the way. I did a bit of spiral-like light painting in keeping with the theme, and processed the image in a scratchy style in an effort to match the now scratchy condition of the clear plastic dome on the toy.

I've been exploring the farthest reaches of space with my faithful companion Mr. Bippy. I can't help but hope to find more intelligent life soon. I love Mr. Bippy but he keeps eating all of the peanut butter sandwiches.

I took this image about a month ago when we still had ice on the bay. Those were the days we could go for walks along the shore without worrying about meeting other people. Now if we meet someone on our stroll around the neighbourhood we step aside to give as much space as possible. BUT, we can still walk around the block if we choose a quiet time....or rainy day. Luckily, most people don't like to walk in the rain and we have several of those days in the forecast. :)

Another shot from Thursday night's adventure up to The Daymark.

Seeing the Milky Way like this was absolutely amazing, and I can see why people get addicted to Astrophotography. I have so much to learn about this but it's fun giving it a go.

This is a blend of two images, the first one is a 4 minute exposure for the foreground and the second is 20 second exposure for the sky.

We visited the Oregon coast for a week, and were joined by our nephew, niece-in-law and grandnephew. Spent a delightful time with them, including the little one. At one point, he disappeared into our bedroom, and I came in to find that he'd climbed into the kennel with Aria. She is so loving that she just allowed his invasion of her private space.

...learn to be exclusive, not out of arrogance, but out of wisdom. Do not disperse yourself in every corner or allow anyone who crosses your path to have access to your inner space. Your time, your energy, your essence, are treasures that deserve to be guarded with care. For to be selective is not to close yourself off from the world, but to take care of your own inner self by watering it only with what truly nourishes and flourishes. Not everyone walks with the same light that you emit. ♥

Do you watch Bob Ross painting at an easel on TV?

What is the difference between the transparency of space and the presence of place?

Inspired by Harry Gruyaert. photo; Ouarzazate.

For months I have been studying and shooting the transparency of space like Stephen Shore. Then I was introduced to this cat Gruyaret and his compelling embracing of empty place.

This is supposed to get easier not harder !!!!

The relationship between the runner and that car are vital to the structure of the center stage. While the people and poles at the periphery are important in creating the gateway to the back of the picture.

Photograph taken inside the "Reales Atarazanas de Sevilla". This image shows the vaults and pointed arches of one of the historic naves, restored and prepared for use in the near future as one of Spain's most important cultural spaces.

This architectural complex of the "Reales Atarazanas de Sevilla" , which is still preserved today, historically constituted the city's main arsenal owned by the Crown of Castile. During the winter, the galleys of the kingdom's military fleet were stored here due to the dangers of navigation during those months, and this time was used to repair them between the 13th and 15th centuries. "Atarazana" is synonymous with arsenal or shipyard; in this case, in Seville, "atarazana" refers to an arsenal, that is, a place of refuge or storage for the military fleet.

They specialized in serving as winter shelters for galleys, which played a significant role in the struggles for control of the Strait of Gibraltar, as well as in Castile's participation in the Hundred Years' War. Initially, this complex consisted of 14-15 ships (like those in the photo) and later expanded to 17 ships, alongside a large sandy esplanade that reached the banks of the Guadalquivir River. Beneath the floors of these visible ships lie buried the canals that led to the river, as well as the repair benches and keels for the galleys.

On March 13, 1969, the State declared the Royal Shipyards a Historic-Artistic Monument, and on June 18, 1985, the level of protection for the property was increased, declaring the Artillery Arsenal (which occupies the seven remaining ships and other structures) a Site of Cultural Interest in the category of Monument.
