This chap spoke to me for the whole afternoon. Basically told me his life story - which was a very sad one. He asked me to take his picture but refused to look at the camera. He wanted me to capture his pain.

Well it's been a long time long time now,
Since I've seen you smile,
And I'll gamble away my fright,
And I'll gamble away my time.

I feel such sorrow for the people in Japan suffering with the uncertainty and loss they have experienced.
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow

Maastricht, The Netherlands. Memorial for the French refugees 1914-1918. During the First World War some five thousand refugees fled France to the Neutral Netherlands. Most of them entered via Maastricht, and onwards spread out all over the country. Many of them died never seeing their homeland again. This monument commemorating their plight was designed by Huib Luns and chiseled by Charles Vos (1926).
