The painting is by Gilbert Hsiao, who I met through eBay (he bought a Sun Ra LP from me). We struck up a conversation, via email, and I later met him during a trip to New York, where he lives. You can see more of his art here: www.minusspace.com/hsiao/hsiao.html

"Why Portia," you ask, "where did you find that lovely skirt? Is it all one piece?!"
The simple answer is YES! The entire dress is -one- prim. I'm borrowing the following quote from a NC I received from my JANE update group this morning (and if you haven't been to JANE before you should go. Now.):
~ "Mesh is worn on top of the avatar, much like clothing would in real life. By nature, mesh clothing cannot be modified within Second Life. You CAN change the attachment points over and over and they will always automatically align to the place the creator placed them. This is great as you will no longer have to realign items you move from point to point. Mesh is also created to move with your body. If you should sit down while wearing a mesh skirt, the skirt will bend with you, rather than having a rigid sculpt or prim jutting out in front of you. You will no longer need glitch layers to conceal the fact that a leg is sticking out of the side of your skirt. If you kick your leg in the air, the mesh skirt will stretch with the kick. It's truly amazing.
Mesh will do it's best to fit your shape as far as height and length of limbs go. It will also stretch to fit in cases of overall avatar size based on some factors but not all. Unfortunately, mesh cannot stretch to fit with the breasts, butt, muscle size, love handles, belly size, saddle bags or body fat. You will be finding helpful alpha layers with your mesh purchases in order to conceal some of these fit issues.
Keep in mind, that the alpha layers will not be able to correct all size issues and you may need to tweak your shape a touch in order to make things fit. As far as I can tell from testing, there are many aspects of your shape that will make a mesh fit and so far, I have been able to work around fit issues without changing my overall appearance. Instead of saddle bags, you CAN change the width of your hips. Instead of body fat, you CAN change the thickness of your avatar. In the case of breasts, many times, I've found that simply changing the buoyancy of your breasts will make them work with the alpha layer and mesh clothing. Also, from what I am seeing, if your avatar's body is proportioned in a realistic manner, the mesh clothing generally fits with no or very minimal shape adjustments. If you should even encounter a mesh that requires a lot of changes to your base shape, it may be a good idea to save the new shape to the same folder as the mesh clothing for future use." ~

for me. These periwinkle were a gift and so I have had them the first time ever. A real great starter for a stylish dinner or a not so usual meal.
My photoshoot was to go to a place where I have never been to and find objects and shoot them from a different angle with my camera near the ground
Tried something new today, first time taking pictures of a person. Lot to learn but big thanks to my friend Leah for being the test guinea pig!

Never seen much done from this bridge, and since the train was taking its sweet time I figured it was worth the stop. 800 dogs it down the new siding at River Junction waiting for traffic to clear ahead. 10/15/2012

*Update* I've found the lens to be very sharp between the f4-f11 range. Let me put it another way. The background behind your subject is very sharp but not your actual subject. I've sent the lens off to Sigma UK for calibration. Because the lens is out of warranty I have to pay £33.99 for the calibration, which isn't too bad as I was expecting to have to pay more.
Just got this lens (Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 HSM) for £390 off ebay. It's used but in great condition.
I've taken a few test shots with it and it seems pretty sharp. Probably not as awesome as the Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 but then this is less than half the price when bought new.
PS: Forgive the cheapo tripod. I don't use them very often so don't see the point in investing in a good (expensive) one just yet.

We are 15 days into our 21 day adventure in Europe. Each day is filled with "something new" and it's totally thrilling. Today we stood in line for over an hour to go into Anne Frank's house in Amsterdam. I fought back tears the entire time we toured her house. Our kids (ages 16, 13, and 10) were both saddened and captivated by the spirit of a child so close to their own age. As we were leaving the gift shop at the end of the tour, we came to the area you see in this image. There was a small donation box and guest book where you can leave your impressions. This is my oldest, who had been waiting to see Anne's house since third grade, recording her thoughts.
Also, I'm blowing the dust off my blog and have started to upload entries from our trip. We have had many adventures, so if you care to follow along, here is the link:
