I am in a kind of `A new beginnings fase` in my life and it seems to infuence my crafting to! I made my first notebook and I tried Mixed Media techique for the firts time. This is a diary to write my plans and dreams and the sentiment on the cover is one of my favourites quotes: `One sees clearly only with the heart. Anything essential is invisible to the eyes` from the sweet Little Prince. I sparkle embossed the HA Classic Fabric design image on the heart.

Something New

A Rose is A Rose"

“A rose is a rose is a rose" is among Gertrude Stein’s most famous quotations, often interpreted as meaning "things are what they are”.

Since this week’s challenge is a bit open-ended, I decided that my something new would be more about my photography technique than an event, person or place. I bought these lovely roses to bring some springtime into an otherwise cold and dreary day on Cape Cod.

My something new is: 1) I shot the photo in RAW format on my new iPhone using the Lightroom app; 2) I uploaded it into Lightroom on my computer and did minor edits there for the first time ever as it's a new tool for me.

One of the things that I love about photography is that if you are curious enough there wil always be a chance to reinvent yourself and your images, and there is no age limit to that, no expiration date, no limits at all...

Birdhouses are a great way to attract wildlife to your garden space. In honor of the 4th of July holiday, Lauritzen Gardens is happy to present this wonderful exhibit of one-of-a-kind birdhouses, constructed by Richard Yost of Bellevue, Neb. Yost was inspired to build all 51 birdhouses by a birdhouse that his father made, many years ago, with scrap lumber and an old Nebraska license plate. All of the birdhouses on exhibit are decorated with various knick-knacks that represent each state.

About the artist

Birdhouse creator Rich Yost was born and raised in South Omaha, and graduated from Daniel J. Gross High School. His parents encouraged creativity, and his dad would probably be considered an original "American Picker." The family property contained many sheds, outbuildings and closets full of unusual items which had been purchased at flea markets, auctions, or garage sales. As a young lad, Rich realized the potential of turning these "interesting" items into something new and original, either as a household decoration or for outdoor art. Today, he has a large back yard full of whimsical and repurposed items and a wife who tolerates his urge to buy what many would consider junk, for use in his future projects. He hopes that you enjoy touring the United States via the birdhouse adventure as much as he enjoyed creating them.

Biking is a passion of mine and it's something I can't live without. Since moving down to Boston for college, I tried something new and sold my mountain bike for a bmx. It has since been a year and there is no question that I miss mountain biking. Whether it's speeding down flowy singletrack, working through a gnarly downhill, or just enjoying a classic XC ride; nothing beats biking in New England during the summer and fall. Sharing a ride with good buddies is one of the most enjoyable experiences I can imagine. Although it's still the middle of winter, I'm itching to get back on the trails. To hold me over I've been riding in the living room :) haha.

For this shot I wanted to use my off-camera flash but because I don't have a sync cable I had to improvise. I shot a 0.5 sec exposure at f/22, iso 100. This allowed me to balance the ambient light with the flash, which I held above camera right and triggered during shutter release. I'm hoping to complete my strobist kit by the end of the week so that I can do some proper lighting setups. Regardless though, I'm pretty happy with how this came out!

It's December!!!!

Maybe even something I'll finish.

Something new :)

Was running a pair of Mary's and liking them. Wanted to try a pair of loop bars for a while as there is a little more sweep than the Mary's. I dig 'em.

Something new :)

I've been sitting on this for a long time without mentioning it, but I've had a Heubach 250 on layaway with a local woman whose doll-collecting mother-in-law passed away. Just brought her home a couple of days ago, and she's already fitting right in!

Her name is Ludovica. Loveday totally digs her. ;)

Since I finished taking a picture every day for 2012 I have been letting my camera collect dust. I've been taking a bit of a break but that doesn't mean I don't still love photography and especially taking photos of my favorite thing in the world, my Lily Grace. This is a shot from over the weekend. Hope everyone is doing well and I hope you like it...

I learned something new today. The last time that I visited this graveyard I noticed a large number columns of that I thought were broken. Because of the poor condition of the cemetery I had assumed that they were broken due to wear, general damage or vandalism. However, after further investigation I discovered that a broken column indicates a life cut short, a memorial to the death of someone who died young or in the prime of life, before reaching old age.

Mount Jerome Cemetery & Crematorium is situated in Harold's Cross on the south side of Dublin, Ireland. Since its foundation in 1836, it has witnessed over 300,000 burials. Originally an exclusively Protestant cemetery, Roman Catholics have also been buried there since the 1920s.

Often referred to as "Harold's Cross Cemetery" Mount Jerome is where wealthy Victorians established monuments to themselves. They couldn't take their wealth with them so they made sure they could still flaunt it for decades and centuries to come. In many cases their attempts to impress have succumbed to the passage of time as the majority of the physical memorials are in a state of decay while many (especially those made of sandstone) are rotting away at an alarming rate. In my opinion this decay only adds to the attractiveness of the place.

If you do decide to visit the Gresham Vault where the pedestal on top of the tapered walls at one stage supported a bell with a chain running from it into the vault. This was erected with the purpose of allowing the lady who was interred (and who had a fear of being buried alive) to ring the bell if she awoke.

Since I was last at Clarendon Falls, the folks who live in the big house on one side of the falls have put in a bridge to the other side of the creek. Adds a nice touch I think. Closer view below. The sun had come out by the time I took that picture and shone on the bridge but not on the falls. Kind of nice.

My cursor now moves....Duh!.....Finally realized the $20 7 year old mouse was the problem. Replaced that and I am on again!

On Thursday 29th November we had a very enjoyable day out on 'The Cathedrals Express' steam train to Bath. The train, which started from Victoria station, picked up passengers en route at East Croydon, Redhill, Dorking (Deepdene) and Wokingham. Newly built A1 class loco 60163 'Tornado' worked the train throughout. The loco which has very recently been painted in BR Express Blue livery is seen during a water stop at Newbury.
