Due to weather conditions not cooperating (no snow), and some medical issues over the past few years, my skis were collecting a lot of dust. Today seemed the perfect day to correct that situation.

This prairie solo tree adventure ended up in a wicked allergy attack…but I'd do it again #explorealberta #stayandwander I hope you don't mind latergrams from the trip. I have a 'mountain' of them. instagram.com/p/qRvUN5SZ8F/

One of my last final images from Chehalis, WA. I've never been able to get a solo tree shot. I've tried many times before and never really was able to get a good angle or create a cool image. I liked this image because of the pink and blue hues that have a pastel. In this shot I added a gradient layer to decrease the exposure of the sky about 3 quarters of a stop. After that I framed it in CS 5 and then vola! I posted it to flickr.
I came across this tree while taking a bike ride in the East Bay Lamorinda area (Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda) -- my first thought was that the view really reminded me of the opening from Six Feet Under

Its not often you see snow like this in Blackheath. There is usually only 2 or 3 snow falls a year that settle on the ground.
This is the second for the year
0.6 seconds so you can see how fast it was blowing around
Solo tree is my favorite subject. Hope this tree stays there. A park is going to be built in this area. Save my tree!

There's the Geneva tree again! I got a few snaps of the snow last weekend before the big thaw.
Slightly cropped. No further processing.

I am so happy that it snowed again. Snow is magic. It makes everything looking pretty. I cannot have enough snow. Let it snow...
And I did not cheat today. I did what I wanted to do: shoot a snow scene, and shoot my solo_tree. One of these days, I will find the right light and angle to have my beautiful solo_tree shot.
Another one I'm finally getting around to processing from January's trip to the Grand Canyon.
I used a "Levels" adjustment layer set to Screen to make the tree brighter so it didn't disappear into the canyon. By using "Color Range" I could select just the greens of the tree and a feather of about 50 so that you don't notice any haloing around the tree. I also only used a strength of about 50% for that layer so it didn't get too noisy.... so there, a little tutorial for you :D
In Firefox the blues are totally wrong. Bummer. Looks awesome in Safari.
Thank you for looking.
I think there's even a faint halo arc around the sun. Drove around the county for a little under an hour, looking for a solo tree; lucky to find this one; with it's gnarly character.

For some reason I'm drawn to solo trees on the edge of fields or those standing on the curves of lonely hills. This is one I manipulated using PS Elements 2. Still don't know how to use it properly, and I think it is up to version 6 now.
