If you're a, oh, let's just say, a Dutch photographer who visits SoCal for the first time, you will be enthralled to see so many iconic palm trees. Everywhere you go you'll see rows of really tall bendy ones lining streets or clumped groomed groups as landscape accents or solo trees just sticking up out of no where off in the distance. By the time you've made your second or third (or seventh) visit here you'll find you are getting more than a bit exasperated that they seem to show up in EVERY dang photo you take, either front-and-center, semi-hiding in the background, sneeking unexpectedly into a reflection, or just appearing as some stoopid silhouette shadow in that kick-ass shot you just took (thinking it was palm-tree-free). SoCal palm trees... so ubiquitous indeed.

But, you know what? I've lived here all my life and I simply don't notice them anymore.

Nice comments without copied/pasted group icons are welcome. .

As Flickr is a sharing site I only add my pictures to public groups, .

Failed sunrise shot of Kauritutahi Island. Overcast skies aren't helpful.

A classic lonely tree shot taken on Loch Lomond side. Similar to the famous Buttermere tree this too has its following with around 6 other photographers surrounding the tree while I was there. I chose to shoot this from a different angle to include the row of stones which adds convergence to the composition rather than the more simplistic solo tree shots more commonly seen.

A marvellous old prairie history lesson discovered near Etzikom in Southern Alberta, where the old became new, and soon the new became old.

November 9, 2019 - Snowy Egret resting on the tree at Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve in Huntington Beach, CA.

While hiking at Marilla Reservoir in Bradford, PA during a foggy morning sunrise I noticed this solo tree across the lake. The golden leaves were such a strong contrast against the dark green evergreens.

Went out with Mike Wilhelm yesterday on Blue Cypress Lake in Search for Osprey. Saw a lot notwithstanding the choppy lake waters and high winds and cloudy skies. Mike took me to the calmer end of the lake and notwithstanding the fact that the clouds obscured any chance we had at a sunrise shoot, the environment was prime for some cool shots anyway with the bald cypress against the grey skies and reflections.

The bald cypress look like bonsai trees and this solo tree provided my favorite composition of the day.

Took this with the Canon G10.

One of the few "benefits" of a prolonged drought in North Texas is warm winter tones in the treeline....

I personally feel that this image is better if viewed at the larger sizes.

This is classic landscape in Tuscany. Many small hills with solo trees and villas.

This photo is from Spring. Spring in Tuscany is very beuatiful. Nature was blooming and all was green or yellow.

Solo tree silhouettes are hard to pass up! I love the sun flare in this one.

Rannoch Moor, Scotland.

One of those mornings you think you've wasted time and money to stand in a drably lit field. Then a beam of sun shine sweeps the moor and you cross your fingers and toes that it will come your way. Then i went to the pub and watched England win the Rugby World Cup. Heaven !

I am looking for solo_tree in greater Cincinnati.

For the most part the sun was blocked by the clouds but it did finally poke through.

Amid the lush growth covering the landscape, a solo tree stands tall but on the cusp of death.
