Our weekend guide, Mr. Singh, took us on a 4-hour trip on rural roads to this large, ancient tree in the sand dunes. He learned about the tree a few years ago when several of his taxis were hired to transport crew for a Bollywood movie that were using the dunes as a location. The movie was a historical drama and the scene was a desert battle that involved 2000 extras.

I’ve come to realize that the solo tree in a field or on a hill is one of my tropes. Classic Gary right here. And I’m okay with that. (6-23-19)

The recent trip to Yosemite during March was incredible. The light was one thing that I paid attention to the most probably on my mind every minute. Knowing that we can not be at multiple locations during the magic hour a lot of choices are made to optimize our photo adventures. This image demonstates how small the window is for such an event. The illumination on the solo tree caught my eye. There's never enough time to get it all so there's going to be more trips in the future to pick up where I left off. IMG_1595

I saw this tree While I was walking by and took a quick single RAW image.

Later I converted it to 3 images -2,0,+2 and made this HDR.

I located this scene just 500 meters from where I live. I've passed this tree many time without noticing it. But as I'm studying b/w photography I'm training my eyes (and brain) to see in b/w. And as a result of this new ability, this scene presented it self visually.

With my Nikon D300 and a Sigma APO 70-200mm f/2.8 lens I composed this photo in camera so cropping in post processing was not needed. With the Dodge tool I darkened the foliage behind the tree. A 25% vignet was added.

kstoon owns the "solo tree on the open plains of Central Illinois" motif. I thought I'd give it a try myself. This is my favorite pasture. It's in Eastern Tazwell County.

“The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way. Some see nature all ridicule and deformity... and some scarce see nature at all. But to the eyes of the man of imagination, nature is imagination itself.”

― William Blake

We could see this tree in the far distance from our cottage and found it intriguing so we took a walk to get a better view.

Searching out the leaves here on our farm. Looking for the change. These solo trees are very appealing to me.

This is another of my papaya solo trees; the papayas do no grow big like the normal ones, that is why it is called Haiwaian solo. It means just enough for a person's consumption!

Quite a good output.

The tree is about 8 feet tall. The fruits take about 2.5 months to ripen.

A flock of Cattle Egret took to flight so I knew something interesting was near. This beauty of a bird landed in a large solo tree in a cow pasture. The bird hung around for a while before pulling a small branch off and taking off again. This was on the way to Blue Creek Village in Toledo, Belize
