Macro Mondays: "Iron" theme
Socket sets are generally made from chrome vanadium steel, which is mainly composed of iron, alloyed with several elements including chromium, vanadium, and carbon. This handle with 1/2-inch socket is quite old and has picked up some rust along the way.

Back in the day when I did my own repairs, I treated myself to a Halford Socket Set...... It was really useful, perfect for DIY.
It was soon after I came home from the Army, many years ago. I had cameras. My father's cousin asked if I would take the group picture for her twenty-fifth high school reunion. I wasn't thinking well that day and said yes. I suppose that I thought because I subscribed to Popular Photography Magazine I was ready for a commercial photo shoot. I knew enough that in order to take a picture of a group while inside I needed more than just a flash on the camera. I found two lamps with stands at a local photo store. This is one of the two. It has a rudimentary ball and socket setup so the lamp can be aimed. I did the job. I got pictures, processed the film and made prints. I found out something. Commercial photography is a real job. I thank my lucky stars that nobody ever asked me to do a wedding. This image was cropped from a 75mm square photo of the entire mechanism. HMM everyone. Thanks for your views, faves, and comments.
Having the proper tools to complete a task makes life so much easier. In fact just to create this image, I had a decent camera, proper lens, a sturdy tripod, computer software, all tools of the trade. Having the proper tools is a start but we have to master the tools to become proficient at our tasks. There is no shame in acknowledging that we are all still learning and improving. I listen to many podcasts and it is always good to hear the reminder about not comparing yourself to other's, you are not in the same place in your journey. Master your tools!
For Macro Monday - Socket
The socket that is for connecting the keyboard to a 30 year old IBM desk top computer - which still works!
Happy Macro Monday!
Shiny sockets all in a row.

One Canon pointing at another. This is the System Extension socket on the side of my Canon 1DX. I have never used it, it is to connect a wireless transfer gadget for pitch side photographers to transmit images... thus I have never used it. I tried focus stacking this, but frankly, I preferred this single image with the gold pins out of focus. The scene is 9/16ths of an inch across and shot at a little over 2 x magnification. Any greater magnification would have made it very difficult to get light into the socket as the working range would be getting down under 5cm from the lens element.
