Flowered white obliterate...
Snow...unceasing snow.
~Hashin, Japanese Haiku
We got our first snowfall this morning, only 1", but I ran outside to capture it before it melted.

there were these amazing snowdrifts sometimes completely hiding the road while we were driving back from our day excursion.
Star-shaped pure white flowers of the evergreen Clematis armandi 'Snowdrift' look spectacular in colour and in B&W… and they smell fantastic. Morden, London, England, U.K.
Have I mentioned that I really like snowdrifts. Just like the auroras now two snowdrifts are the same. The patterns that the wind creates is artistic. Combine that with the moonlight and you can find some really interesting compositions.
Any of ya'll remember this. For some reason, it was different than other shortenings and I remember various relatives using it. At some point it seemed to be the rage. Apparently someone has been trying to restore he advertisement on this building. Stumbled onto to it chasing trains in Sanford, NC. the missing word is Pastry, looks like a door was added to interfere with it. Hope they
finish it.
Snow drifts by the side of the Castleton to Chapel-en-le-Frith road caused by the high winds earlier today.

2-6-0 No 78018 make a 'Spirited Departure' from Rothley, Great Central Railway (GCR), Leicestershire on the return journey of the Quorn to Quorn service, following GCR's resumption of weekend passenger services after the recent easing of COVID restrictions.
The train had early stopped at Rothley Station to return the single line token. Passengers neither boarded or alighted from the train.
Built in 1954, this engine when based at Kirkby Stephen working trains from Tebay to Barnard Castle on the Stainmore Railway, became famous by getting stuck in a snow drift during February 1955, which resulted in the film 'Snowdrift at Bleath Gill'
Thereafter it was transferred to various other depots before its withdrawal on 12th November 1966 after only 12 years. In November 1978 it was rescued from Barry Scrapyard before being sold to its present owners the Darlington Railway Preservation Society in 1981. After undergoing substantial and loving restoration it made a welcome return to service during GCR's 2016 Autumn Gala.
Recently the engine has received a nameplate - Borough of Darlington - which only appears on this side - due to lack of available space on its other side.
Taken between Ballycastle and Cushendun on Sunday just before the point where the road was closed. The farmers have suffered terribly with the loss of at least 10,000 sheep and lambs and our thoughts are with them and the other folks living in remote areas who are still unconnected to water and electricity supplies.

UPDATE Can't believe this is my second Explore in a week - my new Fuji X10 is doing pretty well!
This was taken just south of Derry Cairngorm in the coldest wind you can imagine. Forget adding filters! By the time I got the camera out and framed, my fingers were very numb (can't use the camera with my mitts on). You should try changing lenses with spin-drift flying about most of the time. Waiting for the drift to lie still for 2 seconds (while you get colder and colder) tests your patience - and your nerve ("Nooo!! my camera body is full of snow!!!").
The one big advantage with fresh snow in strong wind is the shapes it appears in.
This crabapple tree has been sitting on my deck in a pretty pot all summer. It will be planted for the winter months....then back on the deck in the Spring!
Thursday was a snow day throughout the Inland Empire! Winds drifted snow across the roadways and brought the windchill temperatures down to subzero levels. Quite a difference from the "balmy" upper 30's and 40's Fahrenheit that we experienced a week ago.
This is the southern fence line of our northern hayfield along the county road. As you can see much of the fence is buried under the snowdrifts from the evening storm.
Thank you for your visits and comments. HFF!
After a storm I walked around a bit here at South Pole and found this interesting little snowdrift. With the South Pole Station in the background it makes for a nice composition.

The Bealach road has been closed for two weeks due to huge snowdrifts and equipment malfunction. It was finally opened yesterday to the delight of locals and tourists alike.
