Had to get a shot of this fresh snowdrift which followed the curves of the frozen river. The Sunrise was kicking off to the left of the shot but this drift was coloured pink from the light reflected off the headland to the right out of the frame. (Reflection of a reflection)
Galant galanthus! These hardy snowdrops often push up through snow and frozen earth to give at least a glimmer of hope for spring. A bit of a cliched shot, but who can resist their own version of them...

This is how my Super Bowl Sunday started out and it went down hill from there.15" of snow and 20-30 mph sustained winds made for white-out conditions and 4' drifts. It will take days to clean up this winter "wonderland"....
I'm sorting old photos and posting a few interesting ones. This image was uploaded to Flickr on May 8, 2022.
Thank you to everyone who visits, faves, and comments.
Someone - certainly not me - had pushed their face into a snowdrift (4 times!), creating this rather strange mask effect!
The shot in the comment is part of one of the snowdrifts on Hilltop Road last week.
In January, we were invited by our good friends to join them for showshoeing in Stowe, Vermont. On this outing, it was very cold and snowing for most of the day. When we passed this area with the lovely drifts of snow, I asked for a few minutes to photograph as I wanted to be able to remember the scenery that reminded me so much of Robert Frost's poem, "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening".

I have been waiting weeks for the weather conditions to be just right in Girdwood. I was able to capture the changing colors of this morning sunrise in Alyeska.
15th February 2012
We are having very high winds and regular whiteouts today.
I took this photo before I cleared the snow for a second time this morning and it's snowing again.
So far we've had six inches of snow in two blizzards with virtually zero visibility. The main road 3 kilometres away was closed due to the heavy snow and snowdrifts.
The good news is that the weather has warmed up to zero - minus 3C.

what a beautiful phenomenon it is when the wind blows aways the snow from the mountains
must have been a pretty rough wind up there
This is from 2016. But in the winter 2023-24 we've got even more snow. Actually it's a 30 years record so far: by the timeline of 16 February only in 1994 we've got more snow than now.

This is Snowdrift Ridge in Georgetown Canyon
This is view I have LOVED forever. When they expanded the smoky mine I thought they tore it out. Today we seen a set of tracks leading to what we were pretty sue lead to this spot.
How lucky we are to find it again. Especially in this beautiful time of the year.
In a few days I think Snowdrift will look more like Snowdrift

Some wonderful textures in the snowdrifts with the Arnisdale and Glenelg hills and the Black Cuillin as backdrop. There's some animal tracks in the foreground which I wasn't too sure about, but given that this hill seemed to be heaving with wildlife I think it's a nice little touch.
I've written a trip report which can now be found on the BLOG
This is a photo of wind sculpted snow drifts on Clam Harbour Beach that have been dusted with wind blown beach sand.
