A common snapper turtle hiding in ambush under a tree on the creek.

The surf was small on this morning, but it would have been good at Duranbah. However, you will be lucky to have found a parking space at this time of year. I took this photo of a father and son team as they entered the water. It's just a snap for the sake of taking a photo. tide

Below the pier along one side there was shallow water with thick sludge/silt right below the surface. Perfect conditions for this baby snapping turtle. Looked like a rock sticking out of the water at first. The first baby snapper I'd ever seen.

A newly hatched Snapping turtle (Chelydra serpentina) on a sandy beach makes its way into the waters of Lake Superior in the early morning sun. If you look closely, you can see it's still sporting its "egg tooth" (or caruncle - which helps it break out of its egg) on its "upper lip".

the dogs found this one wed evening, it was almost dark. I didnt want to mess with it in the dark!! the next day we found him trying to sneak into our pond but was caught on the wrong side of a fence. I didnt want him in the pond and worry that he might bite one of the dogs, so I caught him with a landing net and took him to the river for a better place to live. he just fit into the net, shell front to back was about 15 inches
