Nancy and K. have been hunting for a turtle for a pet. Snappers don't make good pets, though.
This turtle's carapace was covered in fresh, wet mud, making us think he had emerged from an early attempt at hibernation to enjoy the marvelous, warm, sunny day.

From out trip to Margate, I liked how the scene played out in front of me, 3 apprehensive photographers having their pictures taken : )
Snapper (Pagrus auratus) and a male Pakiti (Notolabrus celidotus) at Goat island, Leigh, New Zealand.
Met this guy on my way home. He was camped out in front of my driveway. Not being completely daft, I used a large stick to slide him to the side of the road. He offered his photos and a bad attitude as repayment for my assistance.

My girls found this young common snapping turtle in my sister's pool filter and I had to resue him and photograph him before returning him to the creek. I'm pretty sure he (I think he's a he) is 2-3 months old
I replaced this file because it really needed to have the contrast bumped and sharpened. I think this is much more pleasing. This should have been done before the initial upload.

This one is a bit smaller than the monster of pine lake - only about 20 inches. The birds were knocking the mayflies from the trees and some were faling in the later. Or, perhaps, there might be some toes to nibble?
