Poor quality cameraphone pic.
Snapper (Pagrus auratus) are everywhere at Goat island marine reserve. They follow divers around at see what gets disturbed. Strangely there appears to be less triplefins than at the non-reserve Jones bay...

Tuesday morning was sunny and warm here in South Central Pennsylvania. I was greeted by at least 10 or so different turtles at the pond at Nixon Park. This one I had never seen before. I was impressed with its size. Most of the turtles are about 4 to 6 inches long. This mama was at least a foot long.
I found this alligator snapping turtle sunning itself on a rock in Grafton Pond, near Enfield, NH yesterday. I slowly approached him in my kayak, not wanting to scare him off. I didn't realize how close I was drifting until my kayak bumped up against the rock he was perched on. He didn't move an inch. I may never have such a cooperative subject again.
This morning at the Farmer's Market, I got engaged in the most informative fish info with the fish stand proprietor. I came home with 2 new recipes for snapper.
