A school of yellowtail snapper (Ocyurus chrysurus) swim among soft corals during scuba diving operations off the Greenpeace ship MY Arctic Sunrise near the Dry Tortugas Fla., Aug. 18, 2010. The first phase of a Greenpeace expedition to the Gulf of Mexico goes underwater to examine the reefs in the Florida Keys. Several teams of independent scientists will join the crew on board the Arctic Sunrise for the next three months, to conduct a series of scientific research programs that will further understanding of the impacts of both oil and chemical dispersants on the Gulf ecosystem in the aftermath of the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. A BP leased drilling platform exploded April 20 killing 11 workers and causing a leak of millions of barrels of oil from a wellhead one mile deep 50 miles off the coast of Louisiana. Finally capped in August, the leak was treated with a million gallons of Corexit, a toxic dispersant.

Mangroves are the nursery grounds for hundreds of marine species, an integral part of the ocean's ecosystem. These same mangroves are being destroyed by a development in Bimini. Despite developer's commitment to a "sustainable" development, the island's ecosystem is being systematically destroyed. The people of Bimini will lose their local fisheries and tourism as a result of this unwise approach to what should have been a beneficial project for the local economy and people. You can stop this.

A baby Common Snapping Turtle (Chelydra serpentina). They can get quite large. When my grandmother was little, she would tease a snapper with a strong stick until it bit into the it. She would then drag it home still latched onto the stick for my great grandmother to make snapper soup.

Notes: I loved the flavor and textural combinations at play - in fact, they were so compelling, that the rather clean snapper sashimi was unfortunately lost. While I did enjoy the soft meaty texture of the sashimi contributed, I'm not sure that it was the best protein to pair with this motley crew of ingredients.
There are a lot of interesting textures at play: meaty (olives), crispy (watermelon), creamy (avocado ice cream), soft-crunchy (pistachio). The flavors were individually strong and different, and together truly came together in a dynamic mix: briny-salty (olives), sweet (watermelon), buttery (avocado ice cream), and milky-nutty (pistachios).

The yellow 4x4 with the 2x2 cut-out only appears in one other set at the time of this writing: 8037 (Anakin's Y-Wing)
The large white claw/barb thingie is unique to the 2010 Atlantis sets so far.
The other parts have appeared on other sets, but are still pretty uncomon in those colors. (The green cockpit part is another Atlantis exclusive so far)

the best fish we had during our stay was this delicious snapper for lunch. it was grilled with butter and had to be the yummiest i'd had in a while!
