Sculpt update on "Sleeping" Ripley - Narcissus Shuttle - ALIEN 79, 1:18 scale.
Recreating the final scene in ALIEN where Ripley begins her ill fated hypersleep aboard the Narcissus shuttle.
The figure casting has accrued some sculpting revisions - minor but needed. You may see some mild shading around the face, epoxy that was added especially for the cheekbones that had to be raised.
The figure fits into a bedding that was sculpted with AVES FIXIT and shaped before curing to fit the figure in place.
The canopy shots have been adjusted to soften the vacuumed plastic imperfections since it distorts the white resin copy of the sculpt beneath. So it's kinda like an overlay till the final figure is painted.
So this piece will go into the Narcissus Shuttle diorama I am currently building. I am working on a sleeping Jones the Cat that will be included with Ripley within the pod.
Thanks for your patience with the updates. I'm enjoying my new job and I feel I will be able to commit more time in the evenings to increase my sculpt work on the several projects you all have been following here.

Sculpt progress on the Alien Newborn - Alien: Resurrection - 1:18 scale. Sculpt using Aves FIXIT sculpt from Aves Studio.
This week I worked on the body of the creature, namely the arms (upper and lower) as well as the hips and upper legs.
Plenty of adjustments to be made to the muscular folds and definition through the hips/pelvis. Happy with the proportion of the elongated arms vs. the length of the torso.
Going to work on the hips some more but begin working on the hands and add more definition to the lower arms.

Sulaco Sleep Chamber build progress - 1:18 scale - ALIENS. Hoping from the Nostromo to the Sulaco, I've been working on the canopy to the sleep chamber. First I sculpted the shape of the canopy directly to a cast of the bed using Monster Clay. Once I had the measurements right, I shaved away approx. .125 - .25 of the surface from the clay form. Next I sculpted a "shell" directly to the monster clay form using Aves FIXIT sculpt, creating the canopy while adding plot lines where the windows will be knocked out. Once the canopy had cured for 24 hours, I loosened the canopy free from the bed and began to remove the Monster Clay from it's core. I've also refined the surface of the canopy and will begin adding surface details where needed. Once complete I will make a mold and cast the finished canopy then insert clear acrylic sheet to the inside to create the windows. #aliens #sulaco #sleepchamber #breakfastinbed #colonialmarines #sith_fire30
Paint progress on the Newborn - 1:18 scale - Alien: Resurrection. Musée Miniature et Cinéma piece for director Jean-Pierre Jeunet and the CARO / JEUNET expo.
Working on the first couple layers of the face, eyes, mouth. Very fleshy at this stage - want to highlight it out a bit with some aged whites or even lighter tans with a hint of greens running through it. Will begin moving toward the back of the head and neck over the next day or so.
Difficult for me to work on this piece all in one day due to my work and home schedule so I'm doing the best I can- Living for a quiet weekend. To have more time to paint this and much more.

So here's a couple images of the build work so far for the Cafeteria Corridor of the Nostromo - Alien 79 - 1:18 scale. Nothing too flashy- still looking rough while building but later things will begin to tighten up. My original plan was to have the more familiar (movie featured)side of the corridor have accessible cabinets and the other side sealed....yet when I began to build I focused on the "sealed" side first unintentionally and found myself building in shelves. (rolls eyes) so...both sides will have accessible cabinets. - I feel lie I'm building a vintage sci-fi dollhouse at times LOL! #alien #nostromo #cafeteria #cornbread #sith_fire30
These are the pressure pots, where my polyurethane castings are cured under 60 to 80 psi air pressure from the compressor on the right. The space heater maintains the tanks at 150°F to accelerate curing.
Progress on the Translucent Alien Concept variant - Alien 79 - 1:18 scale. I have all the pieces of the beast cast in clear resin - Smooth-on Crystal Clear 200. Painted the head and torso - Still a work in progress as I paint and piece each piece together. Unfortunately I'm loosing some of the translucence via the paint process..I may revisit the casting again using a milky white pigment alone and simply add a wash to the body. #alien #nostromo #translucent #painting

Haven't cleaned the cast yet - plan on doing that this evening. Back to sculpting for next week then later begin building the ALT entrance panel (opposite of the MUTHUR entrance) as well as building the small corridor that leads to the MUTHUR computer. Then paint all three panels at once. "Small moves, Ellie, small moves".....
First shot of Ash's Observation Blister - Paper test shot. 1:18 scale. I always begin my dioramas with paper tests to make sure everything work to scale with the figures and accessories I am creating. Much of this diorama piece will be of sheet styrene but some pieces will be laser cut from MDF board...much of which you see here. I don't know what ping pong balls are made out of, but the plastic stinks to high hell when you sand or cut it. These have been filled with SmoothOn ONYX

Sculpt progress on The Queen - ALIENS 86 - 1:18 scale.
Plastic casting test on the head/jaw build. Rough test, nothing cleaned up or painted.
I used Smooth-On Smooth Cast 320. I do plan in casting the teeth in a transparent plastic eventually.
I've been molding and casting several pieces to my build over the past week or so and have taken some shots of the successes. Surprisingly everything turned out great for the exception of the Alien Warrior mold which I had to redo. More on that one later.
Here is a plastic casing of the four components to create the Alien Queen head and jaw. This is one of several variants that will be made to "plug and play" into the Queen's carapace.
I put one together using some of the initial pulls to get an idea how it will all work. Happy with the results. Next step will be moving onto the neck and variant head sculpts.

Taking the castings I made of my "Space Undies" Ripley (Narcissus) shown last week, a couple of head casts from my Warrant Officer Ripley figure, a Dremel, some sculpt tools, sandpaper and a heat gun, I've created two frames of Ripley sleeping in both the Nostromo and Narcissus sleep chambers.
Next step will be sculpting the upper bodies, filling the seams, adding the arms and fitting the figures properly into their sleep pods. Takes a ton of dremeling, sculpting, sanding and filling...but it's all well worth it.
Nostromo version will feature Ripley topless as it was originally intended. The Narcissus version will feature her in a robe.
Both will have a small sculpt of Jonesy curled up and sleeping
