It's nearly as easy as making store bought meatballs and taste so much better after a day spent outside.

German style red cabbage and sausage along with herbed/garlic mashed potatoes and cauliflower. A little heavy for summer but when you have a craving. . .

 

(sorry - don't use exact measures for this)

Small/med head of red cabbage cut up

An onion cut up

Sausage (I used smoked turkey)

An apple or some apple sauce

Splash of white wine

Splash of cider vinegar

Some brown sugar

Salt, pepper and pinch or two of ground clove

Slow cook for about 8 hours

Half leg of lamb in the slow cooker. We don't eat lamb often so when we do it's a nice piece. Can't wait for the aroma to start filling the house now.

We got a new, larger crockpot for Christmas (trying to cook ahead, reducing the amount of time we spend on weekday food prep). Well, that has yielded several weekends of cooking experiments. One we made last weekend was "Lucky Chili," from a book we love, Not Your Mother's Slow Cooker Cookbook. When I saw the name of the recipe, I thought, "Well, how can you NOT make 'Lucky Chili'???" It's good, and we'll definitely try it again.

chili making for FPI lunch, winter 2009

if we knew how to boil water we would.

we put 1/2 cup of pasta into an oiled crockpot, add 1/2- 3/4 cup broth or water and turn it on. it does work.
